If Texas gets Greinke, they're looking at Greinke, Darvish, Harrison, Holland, and probably Ogando. Lewis had elbow surgery on July 27th 2012 and I'm guessing he's not quite back yet. Meanwhile, Neftali Felix had Tommy John surgery on 8/1/12 (not a great week for Texas pitching) and is out most of 2013.

Still, having two legitimate aces at the top of your rotation is a great start (only a couple other teams have that kind of 1-2 punch), then Harrison/Holland represent good solid starters. Ogando started two years ago and should be able to pick it back up. Yeah, that'd be a heck of a rotation, especially for an AL team.

Yes, I think we are number 1 if Haren can throw 200 innings at 3.7 FIP. If Greinke goes to TEX, they might go to #1 for me (but not LAD). And if TAM does not trade Shields or Hellickson, they would be the first staff that I'd pick, given how strong their 6 and 7 are. Rounding out my top 5 would be SF, STL, TEX, and TAM, not necessarily in that order. Us, STL, and TAM would be my top 3 right now.

I predict the Nats will have the best 2013 regular season rotation, as they almost had in 2012. It's the playoffs that concern me, given the young arms, lack of playoff experience, exhaustion issues, etc. Nats pitching staff performed the worst by far among all 2012 playoff teams. I don't expect this to happen again, and I would not trade the staff for anyone else's.

I think it definitely happens. Most say TJ recovery is really a 2-year process. The fact that Strasburg was so all-over-the-place at the end of 2012 was severely under reported during the whole "shut-down gate" outrage amongst know-it-all baseball pundits. Who is to say the team wouldn't have shut him down regardless, after watching him struggle through start after start and clearly fatiguing?

It will just be something to watch and manage. Perhaps skip a start in September in advance of an October run.

Strasburg got tired at the end of his season this past year. Just as Jordan Zimmermann seemed to be spotty in September two years after TJ surgery, I wonder if the same will happen to #37.
