So, Jayson Werth<\/strong>‘s wrist injury is going to keep him out longer than expected, so he hit the 15 day D\/L and to cover his spot the Nats called up one of their two remaining outfielders on the 40-man roster, right?\u00a0 You know, maybe Matt den Dekker<\/strong>, who was acquired in the late spring specifically to provide OF depth and who has MLB experience?<\/p>\n

Nope.<\/p>\n

They called up infielder prospect Wilmer Difo<\/strong>, he of exactly 33 games of experience<\/a> above Low-A ball.\u00a0 Difo, who last time I checked is NOT an outfielder.<\/p>\n

Dave Cameron<\/strong> at Fangraphs also questioned this move<\/a>, pointing out all the things i’d point out.\u00a0 What exactly is Difo going to do on this team?\u00a0 Are they planning on dumping Dan Uggla<\/strong> so that Difo becomes the backup utility infielder who can actually play shortstop?\u00a0 I mean, I get that the team was already pretty over-loaded on outfielders (3 starters plus Moore, Robinson AND Taylor), so perhaps this move is to (finally?) rectify that imbalance.<\/p>\n

Maybe the team just realized its 27th in the league in SBs and wanted some speed.<\/p>\n
