Lee<\/strong><\/a> won the award for the 2nd consecutive year.\u00a0 Committed to Maryland.<\/li>\n<li>Virginia: The Steward School (Richmond)&#8217;s <strong>Nic Enright<\/strong> won the award in Virginia.\u00a0\u00a0 He&#8217;s committed to Virginia Tech.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/baseballnews.com\/2015-louisville-slugger-h-s-all-americans\/\">Louisville Slugger All-Americans announced<\/a><\/span>; Ljay Newsome and A.J. Lee were named to the first team All-American.<\/p>\n<p>Locally, some local player of the year awards:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Washington Post&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-srv\/sports\/highschools\/2015\/spring-all-met\/baseball\/index.html\">2015 All-Met announcement<\/a>, with mostly familiar names that we&#8217;ve discussed in this blog this spring.\u00a0 A.J. Lee was your All-Met player of the year.\u00a0 <strong>Cody Morris<\/strong> named to his third straight All-Met team despite his Tommy John surgery.<\/li>\n<li>The Baltimore Sun&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/sports\/high-school\/bs-va-sp-baseball-first-2015-20150605-story.html\">2015 All-Metro Baseball Team<\/a>.\u00a0 Player of the year is <strong>Truman Thomas<\/strong> of Southern (2-time defending Maryland 2-A champ).\u00a0 Ironically Morris was only Baltimore 2nd team.<\/li>\n<li>Richmond 2015 All-Metro team: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">pending<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Tidewater area<\/li>\n<li>All 2015 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidenova.com\/sports\/all-a-north-region-baseball-team\/article_820776fe-0ab0-11e5-a0c2-3fd83749e9f5.html\">6-A North<\/a> region teams via InsideNova.com.\u00a0 6-A North player of the year was Oakton&#8217;s <strong>Joe Rizzo<\/strong>, a *junior* who hit over .600 for the season.\u00a0 He&#8217;s an early commit to South Carolina.<\/li>\n<li>All 2015 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidenova.com\/sports\/all--a-south-region-baseball-team\/article_11e709d0-1036-11e5-ac66-d32ac4acac7e.html\">6-A South<\/a> Region team: co-players of the year <strong>Bodie Sheehan<\/strong>, First Colonial, a Lefty committed to William &amp; Mary and <strong>Nathan Eaton<\/strong>, Thomas Dale, a SS\/RHP committed to VMI.<\/li>\n<li>All <a href=\"https:\/\/locosportsnews.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/11\/baseball-2015-all-vhsl-5a-north-region-team-selected\/\">5-A North: <\/a>Marshall HS C <strong>Mitch Blackstone<\/strong> (Cornell commit) named the 5-A player of the year (he was also all-Met).<\/li>\n<li>All 5-A South: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">pending<\/span><\/li>\n<li>All 4-A North and 4-A south teams: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">pending<\/span><\/li>\n<li>All <a href=\"https:\/\/locosportsnews.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/10\/baseball-2015-all-vhsl-3a-east-region-team-selected\/\">3-A East<\/a>: Loudoun Valley&#8217;s <strong>Jack DeGroat<\/strong> (Liberty) the regional player of the year.<\/li>\n<li>VHSL All-State Teams: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">pending<\/span><\/li>\n<li>VISAA&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visaa.org\/sports\/baseball\/all-state-teams\/\">2015 All-State teams<\/a>, Division I, II and III<\/li>\n<li>Maryland MIAA All-State teams: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">pending<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>6-A State Finals<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #000000;\">held at Robinson and Lake Braddock HS in Northern Virginia (which are odd-choices; Robinson and Lake Braddock&#8217;s fields aren&#8217;t exactly the nicest available fields in the area.\u00a0 Nor do they have the largest stands.\u00a0 But, those are the two biggest high schools around, so perhaps that&#8217;s why they were selected.\u00a0 Of course, in previous years Fairfax HS was frequently used, with its ridiculously short LF porch, so maybe Robinson&#8217;s larger field is better.\u00a0 Most people believe Madison has one of the nicest HS fields in the area &#8230; but it rarely gets selected as a host for some reason when the cycle for hosting comes back to NoVa).<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6-A North: Winner Madison (Vienna) (22-5) , runner-up Chantilly (20-6)<\/li>\n<li>6-A South: Winner Western Branch (Chesapeake) (22-3), runner-up First Colonial (Virginia Beach) (21-4)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>6-A State Semis Results: Madison pecked away at First Colonial and ended up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/madison-chantilly-set-to-square-off-for-virginia-6a-baseball-crown\/2015\/06\/12\/31b45d90-0f9a-11e5-9726-49d6fa26a8c6_story.html\">breezing to a 7-2 victory<\/a> in the first semi.\u00a0 Madison&#8217;s senior ace <strong>Brian Eckert<\/strong> (Radford commit) pitched 6+ innings of one run ball in his final appearance for the Warhawks.\u00a0 In the nightcap, Chantilly got revenge from last year&#8217;s state final and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/madison-chantilly-set-to-square-off-for-virginia-6a-baseball-crown\/2015\/06\/12\/31b45d90-0f9a-11e5-9726-49d6fa26a8c6_story.html\">pounded the defending 6-A champ Western Branch<\/a> 8-3 to make the 6-A state final a rematch of the regional title game and an all-northern Virginia affair.<\/p>\n<p>6-A State Final: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/cousins-help-madison-win-first-baseball-title-in-more-than-a-decade\/2015\/06\/13\/8ce1d5e4-105d-11e5-9726-49d6fa26a8c6_story.html\">In the state final<\/a>, Madison&#8217;s junior lefty <strong>Matt Favero<\/strong> started the game &#8230; and he finished it.\u00a0 Madison jumped ahead 3-0 but Favero got knocked out in the 4th after giving up 5 hits and 5 unearned runs.\u00a0 Madison clawed their way back though, tying the game in the 6th and then loading the bases in the bottom of the 7th with no outs.\u00a0 There, Favero came up and got the walk-off hit (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BaseballMadison\/status\/609907151251894272\/video\/1\">twitter link to video of the hit<\/a>) to clinch Madison&#8217;s 4th state title (2015, 2002, 1971 and 1968).\u00a0 Kudos to Chantilly; two straight state finals; their coach (<strong>Kevin Ford<\/strong>) deserves his coach of the year accolades.<\/p>\n<p>Madison&#8217;s feat is all the more impressive when looking at their lineup; outside of their ace lefty Eckert and one position player, the rest of their starting lineup in the state tournament are underclassmen.\u00a0 They could be quite dominant in 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6-A State champ<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Madison<\/strong> <\/span>(Vienna) with a 24-5 record on the season.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>5-A State Finals<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">: held at Robinson and Lake Braddock HS in Northern Virginia<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5-A North: Winner Stone Bridge (Ashburn) (21-5), runner-up Marshall (McLean) (21-5)<\/li>\n<li>5-A South: Winner Hickory (Chesapeake) (22-3), runner-up Freeman (NW Richmond) (19-6)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Stone Bridge plays at 3pm at Lake Braddock, Marshall at 7pm.<\/p>\n<p>5-A State Semis Results: As with the 6-A tournament, the 5-A final will be an all-Northern Virginia affair as both local teams won.\u00a0 Stone Bridge&#8217;s Brett Kreyer threw a one-hitter as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/marshall-rallies-stone-bridge-rolls-into-virginia-5a-baseball-title-game\/2015\/06\/13\/3539cf5c-0f9c-11e5-9726-49d6fa26a8c6_story.html\">Stone Bridge beat Freeman 6-0<\/a> in one semi.\u00a0 Marshall took advantage of an ill-timed error that would have ended an inning and a rally and eventually <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/marshall-rallies-stone-bridge-rolls-into-virginia-5a-baseball-title-game\/2015\/06\/13\/3539cf5c-0f9c-11e5-9726-49d6fa26a8c6_story.html\">beat the defending champ&#8217;s Hickory 7-4<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>5-A State Final: In the state final, Stone Bridge fulfilled its &#8220;ewing theory&#8221; credentials by getting further without <strong>J.B. Bukauskas<\/strong> than they ever did with him, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/stone-bridge-baseball-tops-marshall-to-claim-first-virginia-5a-state-title\/2015\/06\/13\/6ba9bf3a-1059-11e5-9726-49d6fa26a8c6_story.html\">handling Marshall 9-4 for its first state title<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5-A State champ<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Stone Bridge<\/strong> <\/span>with a 23-5 record on the season.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>4-A State Finals: <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">held at Liberty University in Lynchburg.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4-A North: Winner Jefferson Forest (Forest\/Lynchburg) (19-7), Fauquier (Warrenton) (19-6), runner-up (by fft after the fact)<\/li>\n<li>4-A South: Winner Glen Allen (N. Richmond) (21-3), runner-up Hanover (N. Richmond)\u00a0 (18-5)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4-A State Semis Results: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richmond.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/article_982d4660-c5c7-5143-8a63-3b99f76d3b0e.html\">Glen Allen took out Fauquier<\/a> in the first state semi final 6-4, facing the Warrenton team after they had to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsadvance.com\/sports\/high_school\/jefferson-forest-claims-region-crown-as-fauquier-found-in-violation\/article_91150dd4-0e55-11e5-b507-33b7bebcda0e.html\">forfeit their 4-A north final victory<\/a> and settle for second place.\u00a0 In the other semi, Jefferson Forest outlasted two-time defending state champion Hanover <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richmond.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/article_982d4660-c5c7-5143-8a63-3b99f76d3b0e.html\">4-3 in extra innings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>4-A State Final: In the final, Glen Allen scored four early and was never threatened, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richmond.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/article_d32d73d0-ea8c-5bd0-89d9-f690f4b11eb6.html\">beating Jefferson Forest 9-3<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4-A State champ<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Glen Allen<\/strong><\/span> (N. Richmond) with a 23-3 record on the season.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>3-A State Finals: <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">held at Liberty University in Lynchburg.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3-A East: Winner Loudoun Valley (Purcelville) (22-2), Runner-up Lafayette (Williamsburg) (18-6-1) (note: these teams were declared co-champs; the positions must have been determined by a coin-flip).<\/li>\n<li>3-A West: Winner\u00a0Monticello (Charlottesville), runner-up Rustberg (outside of Lynchburg)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3-A State Semis Results: In the first semi, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsadvance.com\/sports\/loudoun-valley-upends-rustburg-in-a-state-semifinal\/article_733298c0-1181-11e5-8dc0-873d0a8827d6.html\">Loudoun Valley upended Rustberg 6-0<\/a> with Liberty commit <strong>Jack DeGroat<\/strong> throwing a complete game 2-hitter with 17 strikeouts.\u00a0 On the other side, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vagazette.com\/sports\/dp-spt-lafayette-baseball-states-0612-20150612,0,5967170.story\">Lafayette destroyed Monticello<\/a> 11-0 to setup the state final that should have been the regional final.<\/p>\n<p>3-A State Final: In the state final, Lafayette hit a solo homer for the winning run in the top of the 7th before <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vagazette.com\/sports\/va-vg-jamestown-soccer-and-lafayette-baseball-players-leave-liberty-as-state-champions-graduates-20150613,0,3521900.story\">closing out Purcellville&#8217;s Loudoun Valley 5-4<\/a> for Lafayette&#8217;s first ever state baseball title.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3-A State champ<\/strong>: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Lafayette<\/strong> <\/span>(Williamsburg) with a 20-6-1 record on the season.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Smaller Classifications: <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">held in Salem and at Radford University.<\/span><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2-A match-ups: Strasburg (corner of I-66 &amp; I-81) (25-1) vs Lebanon (SW corner of Virginia), Virginia High (Bristow) (24-2) vs Maggie Walker (Downtown Richmond).\u00a0 In the semis, Virginia High ended Maggie Walter&#8217;s season 8-3, and Lebanon ended Strasburg&#8217;s excellent season 8-2.\u00a0 In the 2-A West rematch for the state title, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Virginia High<\/strong><\/span> bashed their way to a 16-8 victory to repeat as Virginia 2-A champs..<\/li>\n<li>1-A match-ups: Honaker (SW corner of Virginia) v Lancaster (King George peninsula), William Campbell (Gladys south of Lynchburg) vs Radford.\u00a0 In the semis, the two 1-A east teams advanced for a rematch, wherein <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>William Campbell<\/strong> <\/span>turned the tables on Lancaster, winning the 1-A title 16-4.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Recent Virginia HS champs<\/strong><\/span>:\u00a0 Before 2014, we just covered AAA, which now is split between 4-A, 5-A and 6-A divisions.<\/p>\n<p>2014: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=9271\">see this post for 2014&#8217;s state tournament wrap up for all 6 divisions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 6-A, Western Branch d Chantilly 6-4.\u00a0 McLean and Cosby were state semifinalists.<\/li>\n<li>In 5-A, Hickory d Freeman 6-4.\u00a0 Stone Bridge and the surprising Freedom-South Riding semi finalists.<\/li>\n<li>In 4-A, Hanover d Millbrook 7-1.<\/li>\n<li>In the smaller classifications, Loudoun Valley (Purcellville) won 3-A, Virginia High (Bristol) won 2-A and Northumberland (Heathesville, on the King George peninsula) won 1-A.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2013 AAA: Hanover d Great Bridge. Hanover&#8217;s super-junior <strong>Derek Casey<\/strong> (now at UVA) outlasts Great Bridge and their 1st round talent <strong>Connor Jones<\/strong> (now UVA&#8217;s Friday starter after spurning a likely late 1st round draft position). \u00a0Lake Braddock and Oakton beaten in the semis.<\/p>\n<p>2012 AAA: Lake Braddock d Kellam 4-0. Lake Braddock lost to West Springfield in the regional title game but then blitzed to\u00a0a state championship.<\/p>\n<p>2011 AAA: Great Bridge d South County in the state final, giving the powerful South County its first and only loss on the season after starting the season 28-0. \u00a0Lake Braddock was the regional finalist and lost to Great Bridge in the state quarters.<\/p>\n<p>2010 AAA: West Springfield d Woodbridge in the final, giving Woodbridge its only loss on the year.
