Photo via UVA sports<\/p><\/div>\n<p>For the fourth year running (here\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=6877\">2013\u2019s<\/a> wrap-up, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=8996\">2014\u2019s<\/a> wrap-up, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=10845\">2015&#8217;s<\/a> wrap-up), we\u2019re going to keep an eye on \u201clocal\u201d draft prospects leading up to the 2016 amateur draft. \u00a0By \u201clocal\u201d I essentially mean anyone who hails from the DC\/MD\/VA areas plus anyone who is playing their college ball in the DC\/MD\/VA irrespective of where they hail from.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a list of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>DC\/MD\/VA college players draft-eligible in 2016<\/strong><\/span> of note from our area.\u00a0 We&#8217;re now to the point where HS seniors we covered previously in this blog are becoming college Junior draft eligibles; here&#8217;s our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=6877\">2013 draft wrap up<\/a> mentioning a number of these 2016 draft eligible players.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Major Local College Draft Prospects for 2016<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>These are the big-time names that we&#8217;ve been hearing may be 1st or 2nd rounders this year with Local Ties.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Connor Jones<\/strong>, UVA RHP via Great Bridge; a 1st round talent in 2013 who desired to go to college and he hasn&#8217;t disappointed; took over as the Friday starter by mid 2015, finished with a 7-2 record and a 2.96 ERA in 16 starts.\u00a0 Pitched well in the CWS, getting an unlucky loss against Vanderbilt in the final.\u00a0 Playing in the Cape Cod league this summer, on the 2015 Collegiate National team and on the <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/news\/article\/129878386\/search-for-2016-draft-class-immediately-begins\">MLB.com 2016 draft<\/a> short list already.\u00a0 Collegiate Baseball News pre-season 2nd team All-American.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mike Shawaryn<\/strong>: RHP for Maryland; went 13-2 with a 1.71 ERA as Maryland&#8217;s friday starter as a sophomore.\u00a0 He was named to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseballamerica.com\/college\/2015-college-america-teams\/\">Baseball America&#8217;s 2nd team All America <\/a>in 2015.\u00a0 2015 Collegiate National team.\u00a0 He could be a very high draft prospect as a junior.\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t pitch well for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fangraphs.com\/blogs\/college-team-usa-top-20-prospects-nos-11-20\/\">Team USA in summer 2015<\/a>.\u00a0 Collegiate Baseball News pre-season 1st team All-American.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Matt Thaiss<\/strong>, UVA C who led the team in hitting as a sophomore and is on the 2015 National Collegiate team.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fangraphs.com\/blogs\/college-team-usa-top-20-prospects-nos-11-20\/\">Impressed while playing<\/a> for Team USA in summer of 2015, with a top-2 round projection.\u00a0 Collegiate Baseball News pre-season 3rd team All-American.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Buddy Reed<\/strong>, OF from Florida via Finksburg, MD (NW of Baltimore).\u00a0 Not previously on the radar list despite hailing from Maryland b\/c he attended a prep school in Rhode Island.\u00a0 But he&#8217;s playing for Florida and is on the 2015 National Collegiate team.\u00a0 Collegiate Baseball News pre-season 1st team All-American.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Errol Robinson<\/strong>, SS from Ole Miss via St. Johns Prep in DC: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olemisssports.com\/sports\/m-basebl\/stats\/2014-2015\/teamcume.html\">hit .297<\/a> and started every game for Ole Miss as a sophomore.\u00a0 Getting a lot of attention in his junior year, with Ole Miss&#8217; high national ranking and the general dearth of capable shortstops.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Other Local College draft eligibles w\/ Local Ties<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some of these guys will get drafted, others may not.\u00a0 But they&#8217;re all draft eligible, having gone to 4-yr programs 3 years ago.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Luke Gillingham<\/strong> a senior at Navy who was named Collegiate Baseball News pre-season 2nd team All-American.\u00a0 There&#8217;s some history of Navy grads making the majors, including <strong>Mitch Harris<\/strong> and <strong>Oliver Drake<\/strong> in 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Charlie Gould<\/strong>, a rising Sr at William &amp; Mary.\u00a0 Collegiate Baseball News pre-season 3rd team All-American, pre-season all-CAA.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Michael Morman<\/strong>, a 5th year senior\/grad student at Richmond.\u00a0 Collegiate Baseball News pre-season 3rd team All-American.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Daniel Pinero<\/strong>, UVA middle infielder who started 60 games and hit .300 as a sophomore.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alec Bettinger<\/strong>, UVA RHP via Hylton: 50ip and 4 mid-week starts as a sophomore, could take a bigger role with the graduation\/drafting of so many UVA arms in 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jack Roberts<\/strong>, UVA RHP via James River HS: struggled to a 6.08 ERA in 23 innings as a sophomore.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Andy McGuire<\/strong>, RHP from Texas via Madison HS: converted to middle relief at Texas, had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.texassports.com\/cumestats.aspx?path=baseball&amp;\">12 IP in 13 appearances<\/a> in 2015, but does not appear to be on the Texas roster in 2016.\u00a0 No idea where he is now.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thomas Rogers<\/strong>, LHP from VCU via Lake Braddock: Initially went to UNC, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vcuathletics.com\/sports\/bsb\/2014-15\/releases\/20140822e440fr\">transferred to VCU<\/a> in the fall of 2014 and sat out 2015 per NCAA transfer rules.\u00a0 Will be a draft eligible sophomore.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tyler Ramirez<\/strong>, OF from UNC via Suffolk VA (Cape Henry Collegiate).\u00a0 Playing in Cape Cod league summer 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aaron McGarity<\/strong>, RHP from Virginia Tech (home town also Blacksburg).\u00a0 Playing in Cape Cod league summer 2015 and made the All-Star team; prospects looking up.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Andre Scrubb<\/strong>, RHP from High Point U by way of Woodbridge VA (Hylton HS).\u00a0 Playing in Cape Cod league summer 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Luke Scherzer<\/strong>, RHP from Virginia Tech by way of Midlothian VA (Powhatan HS).\u00a0 Playing in Cape Cod league summer 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nick Walker<\/strong>, OF from Old Dominion by way of Chesapeake VA (Kellahm HS).\u00a0 \u00a0 Playing in Cape Cod league summer 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kit Sheetz<\/strong>, LHP Virginia Tech by way of Midlothian VA (James River HS).\u00a0 Playing in Cape Cod league summer 2015.\u00a0 Not sure he&#8217;s actually still at Va Tech; missing from 2016 roster.<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Ellingson<\/strong>, RHP from Georgetown U.\u00a0 Playing in Cape Cod league summer 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Andrew Yacyk<\/strong>, inf from Liberty U via Hagerstown.\u00a0 Playing in Cape Cod league summer 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Andrew Knizner<\/strong>, C from NC State via Glen Allen, VA (Hanover HS).\u00a0 Playing in Cape Cod league summer 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nick Cieri<\/strong>, C\/IB from U Maryland, played in Cape Cod league and made the all star team.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Logan Farrar <\/strong>OF\/2B from VCU<\/li>\n<li><strong>Parker Bean<\/strong>, RHP\/OF from Liberty<\/li>\n<li><strong>Zack Rice<\/strong>: OF from UNC via Suffolk HS in Norfolk: converted to pitching at UNC: had a <a href=\"http:\/\/goheels.com\/fls\/3350\/15base\/teamcume.htm?SPID=12960&amp;DB_OEM_ID=3350\">2.31 ERA in 20 appearances<\/a> in 2015.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bryce Harman<\/strong>, jr 1B from ECU via Chesterfield, VA (Lloyd C.
