Gator Country photo by David Bowie.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Here\u2019s a recap of our CWS coverage so far for 2016:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=11765\">College Baseball 2016 Preview<\/a> and pre-season Rankings<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12055\">2016 Draft Preview <\/a>for Local College-age eligible players of note.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12294\">Field of 64 announcement<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12349\">Regionals Review<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here\u2019s how the super-regionals went down: we\u2019ll look at these regionals in the original order of the top 8 national seeds.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Red<\/strong><\/span> indicates the winner.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#1 Florida <\/span>vs #16 Florida State:\u00a0<\/strong>a rematch of last year&#8217;s super-regional and a chance for Florida State to redeem itself after losing all three of their mid-week matchups this year. \u00a0In game one, Florida State&#8217;s starter\u00a0<strong>Drew Carlton<\/strong> threw a 2-hit shutout and beat Florida&#8217;s #3 starter (why did Florida start\u00a0<strong>Alex Faedo<\/strong>?) in game one to put Florida behind the 8-ball. \u00a0In game 2, Florida DID start their ace\u00a0<strong>Logan Shore<\/strong>, and he threw 8 innings of 2-hit ball himself to even the series. \u00a0In the final, Florida&#8217;s 6th overall pick\u00a0<strong>A.J. Puk<\/strong> lasted just 3 2\/3s .. but the Nats&#8217; first round pick\u00a0<strong>Dane Dunning<\/strong> threw 4 1\/3 shutout ball to help seal an easy 7-0 victory to help <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Florida<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0become the final team to advance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>#2 Louis<span style=\"color: #000000;\">ville vs UC Santa Barbara<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">: This is why they play the games, so to speak. \u00a0Highly favored Louisville went down two straight to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>UC Santa Barbara<\/strong><\/span>, losing with their Ace\u00a0<strong>Brendan McKay<\/strong> on day one and when their #2\u00a0<strong>Drew Harrington<\/strong> handed a 3-run lead to their 1st round closer\u00a0<strong>Zack Burdi<\/strong> in Game 2; Burdi promptly loaded the bases and then gave up a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/news\/baseball\/article\/2016-06-12\/college-world-series-sam-cohens-walk-grand-slam-sends-uc-santa\">walk-off Grand Slam<\/a> to a pinch-hitter\u00a0<strong>Sam Cohen<\/strong> who had just one HR this year. \u00a0The video is pretty amazing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#3 Miami vs Boston College<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">: Miami&#8217;s bats got to BC&#8217;s Ace\u00a0<strong>Justin Dunn<\/strong> and then opened up the game late for a 12-7 game one victory. \u00a0BC came back to force a decider, but <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Miami<\/strong> <\/span>won out to advance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>#4 TAMU vs #13 TCU<\/strong>: TCU bashed their way to an 8-2 surprise game 1 victory. \u00a0TAMU came back with a comprehensive 7-1 win in game two to force the decider. \u00a0 TCU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brian Howard<\/strong> gave up just 2 hits and one unearned run over 7 innings to solidify a comfortable 5-1 deciding victory and send <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>TCU<\/strong> <\/span>back to the CWS.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>#<span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 Texas Tech vs ECU<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">: ECU jumped out in Game 1 with a five-run 5th to knock out TT&#8217;s starter and held on with\u00a0<strong>Matt Bridges<\/strong> striking out 6 of the 8 batters he faced to close out the upset win. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Texas Tech<\/strong><\/span> won game two and then destoyed ECU 11-0 in the decider to advance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#6 <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mississippi State vs Arizona<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">: Arizona got nearly a complete game shutout of its starter\u00a0<strong>Bobby Dalbec<\/strong>, who threw 8 2\/3rds shutout innings before getting lifted with 2-on in the bottom of the 9th. \u00a0Arizona&#8217;s closer made quick work of the final batter to preserve the game 1 upset. \u00a0Game two went to extras, but <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Arizona<\/strong> <\/span>got the walkoff run to win 6-5 and advance.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Oklahoma State vs #10 South Carolina<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">: Despite not being the &#8220;seeded&#8221; team,\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Oklahoma State<\/span><\/strong> made quick work of South Carolina in 2 straight to punch a CWS ticket.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#8 LSU vs Coastal Carolina<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">: Coastal won a slug-fest 11-8 in game one to put LSU in a precarious position. \u00a0Game 2 was closer and had a great finish, with LSU tying it in the top of the 9th and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Coastal Carolina<\/strong><\/span> getting a walk-off single to win and advance to their first CWS.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>My Original\u00a0Predictions<\/strong><\/span>: #1 Florida, #2 Louisville, #3 Miami, #4 TAMU, ECU, #6 Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, #8 LSU<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>How it turned out<\/strong><\/span>: #1 Florida, UC Santa Barbara, #3 Miami, #13 TCU, #5 Texas Tech, Arizona, Oklahoma State, Coastal Carolina<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"main entry-content group\">\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>CWS Field and Profiles<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Top Bracket:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>#1 Florida: 2nd Place SEC Eastern Division, 2nd Place SEC tournament. \u00a052-14 overall record, (19-10 in conference).<\/li>\n<li>Coastal Carolina: Big South Regular season champ. \u00a0Big South post-season champ. \u00a049-16 (21-3).<\/li>\n<li>#5 Texas Tech: Big 12 Regular Season champ. \u00a046-18 regular season (19-5).<\/li>\n<li>#13 TCU: 3rd place Big 12 regular season, Big 12 conference tourney champion. \u00a047-16 (15-9).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bottom Bracket<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arizona: 4th place Pac12 regular season. \u00a044-21 regular season (16-14).<\/li>\n<li>#3 Miami: 1st Place ACC Coastal Division. \u00a02nd Place ACC tournament. \u00a050-12 regular season (21-7).<\/li>\n<li>Oklahoma State: 2nd Place Big 12 regular season. \u00a041-20 regular season (16-8).<\/li>\n<li>UC Santa Barbara: 3rd place Big West Regular season. \u00a042-18-1 regular season (13-11)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CWS field review by the numbers<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Just 1 from the SEC (Florida) despite 7 bids<\/li>\n<li>Just 1 from the ACC (Miami) despite 10 bids<\/li>\n<li>3 from the Big 12 (Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, TCU) despite only getting 3 bids.<\/li>\n<li>1 from the Pac 12 (Arizona)<\/li>\n<li>2 from elsewhere: UC Santa Barbara from the Big West, Coastal Carolina from Big South<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">CWS Field thoughts<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two\u00a0first time CWS participants in UC Santa Barbara and Coastal Carolina. \u00a0The return of Arizona (the 2012 champ). \u00a0Presumptive favorite Miami (college royalty). \u00a0Some Big-12 muscle in a sport dominated by the ACC and SEC. \u00a0And the #1 overall seed, who has been favored from day one to win this thing. \u00a0A very interesting field. \u00a0I&#8217;m kind of shocked that Louisville and Texas A&amp;M got upset &#8230; but TAMU losing to TCU wasn&#8217;t really that much of a shock based on their super regional from last \u00a0year. \u00a0All three Big12 teams who made the field advance to Omaha; that&#8217;s pretty impressive (then again, you really had to squint to find even a 4th team from that conference worth inviting).<\/p>\n<p>In the top half: Despite their struggles getting past Florida State, I don&#8217;t see the teams in Florida&#8217;s bracket troubling them. \u00a0 Texas Tech beat TCU 2 of 3 this year at TCU and I see them being the 2nd place team. \u00a0Coastal Carolina likely goes 2-and-out in Omaha. \u00a0I think it&#8217;ll go Florida, Texas Tech, TCU, Coastal.<\/p>\n<p>In the bottom \u00a0half, Miami has a pretty clear pathway to an all-Florida CWS final. \u00a0I think they&#8217;ll handle Arizona in the first while OK State won&#8217;t be troubled by UC Santa Barbara. \u00a0The bracket goes Miami, OK State, Arizona, UC Santa Barbara. \u00a0I&#8217;m somewhat wary of picking Miami over Oklahoma State and wouldn&#8217;t be shocked if OK State made the final, but for now i&#8217;m picking chalk of the two best seeds remaining.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Quick predictions<\/strong><\/span>: Florida from the top, Miami from the bottom. \u00a0Florida already beat Miami 2 of 3 in Miami this year and will be favored to win 2 of 3 again on a neutral field.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Player Star power in this CWS<\/strong><\/span>: By team, here&#8217;s the guys to look for either for Nats interest or for overall talent\/draft position:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Florida: had 8 players taken in the first 10 rounds, including two 1st rounders (6th overall pick\u00a0<strong>A.J. Puk<\/strong> and the Nats 1st round pick\u00a0<strong>Dane Dunning<\/strong>), three 2nd rounders (Ace\u00a0<strong>Logan Shore<\/strong>, MD-native\u00a0<strong>Buddy Reed<\/strong> and slugger\u00a0<strong>Pete Alonso<\/strong>) and their closer\u00a0<strong>Shaun Anderson<\/strong> (3rd rounder and 2013 Nats draft pick). \u00a0 Just a ton of talent here, which is why they were #1 overall seed and are the presumptive favorites. \u00a0Logan Shore was the sole <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/news\/baseball\/article\/2016-06-02\/usa-baseball-unveils-2016-golden-spikes-award-semifinalists\">Golden Spikes semi finalist<\/a>, and was named a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/news\/baseball\/article\/2016-06-13\/usa-baseball-unveils-four-2016-golden-spikes-award-finalists\">finalist for the award<\/a> this week.<\/li>\n<li>Coastal Carolina: 4th rounder\u00a0<strong>Michael Paez<\/strong> is the highest drafted player of 6 taken. \u00a0CCU has a couple of players with VA roots (<strong>Zack Hopeck<\/strong> from Heritage HS and <strong>Keiton Rivers<\/strong> from new 5A state champs Nansemond River) but neither are regular starters. \u00a0Closer\u00a0<strong>Austen Kitchen<\/strong> was on the Freshman All-american team.<\/li>\n<li>Texas Tech: 10 players taken in the draft, but none before the 8th round. \u00a0Nats 12th rounder\u00a0<strong>Hayden Howard<\/strong> is ostensibly the closer and should see some time. \u00a0But Texas Tech&#8217;s strength is in its \u00a0youth: they had two players named <a href=\"http:\/\/baseballnews.com\/louisville-slugger-freshmen-a-a-squad\/\">Freshmen All-americans<\/a> this year (<strong>Davis Martin<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Steven Gingery<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>TCU: 6 players drafted, none before the 13th round. \u00a0But they&#8217;re clearly a young team: Starter\u00a0<strong>Dalton Horton,<\/strong>\u00a0closer<strong> Durbin Feltman, <\/strong>OF\u00a0<strong>Josh Watson<\/strong> and perhaps the best player on the team\u00a0<strong>Luken Baker<\/strong>\u00a0were\u00a0named to the Freshman All-american team. \u00a0Baker was a very highly regarded draft prospect last year but opted for college and has not stopped \u00a0hitting since.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Arizona: 4th rounder\u00a0<strong>Bobby Dalbec<\/strong> is\u00a0the highest drafted player this year on AZ&#8217;s team. \u00a0Ace\u00a0<strong>Nathan Bannister<\/strong> went 10-2 but was just a 28th round pick.<\/li>\n<li>Miami: Led by 10th overall pick\u00a0<strong>Zack Collins<\/strong> (a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/news\/baseball\/article\/2016-06-02\/usa-baseball-unveils-2016-golden-spikes-award-semifinalists\">Golden Spikes semi-finalist<\/a>),\u00a0Miami had two other 6th rounders and 7 overall picks.<\/li>\n<li>Oklahoma State: ten picks in this draft, led by 3rd rounder\u00a0<strong>Tom Hatch<\/strong> and 5th rounder\u00a0<strong>Donnie Walton<\/strong>. \u00a0Have a starter\u00a0<strong>Jensen Elliott<\/strong> named Freshman All-American.<\/li>\n<li>UC Santa Barbara: 4th rounder\u00a0<strong>Shane Bieber<\/strong> and four other draft picks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">College CWS tournament references<\/span><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>d1baseball.com&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.d1baseball.com\/daily\/today.htm\">daily scoreboard<\/a> is my go-to link<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseballamerica.com\/college\/regionals-roundup\/\">Baseball America&#8217;s Regional Roundup<\/a><\/li>\n<li>d1baseball&#8217;s tournament Post season Index<\/li>\n<li>d1baseball.com&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.d1baseball.com\/postseason\/2016-ncaa-regionals-scheduleresults\/\">Regional Schedule Home Page<\/a><\/li>\n<li>d1baseball&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.d1baseball.com\/postseason\/2016-ncaa-regionals-scheduleresults\/\">Regional participant information<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegebaseballdaily.com\/\">CollegeBaseballDaily.com<\/a> has coverage as well.<\/li>\n<li>Ncaa.com&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/interactive-bracket\/baseball\/d1\">interactive full 64-team bracket<\/a> with up-to-the-minute box scores of live games.<\/li>\n<li>NCAA <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/stats\/baseball\/d1\/current\/individual\/200\">Individual player stats<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Warren Nolan.com&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.warrennolan.com\/baseball\/2016\/index\">College Baseball RPI<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here\u2019s a recap of our CWS coverage so far for 2016: College Baseball 2016 Preview and pre-season Rankings 2016 Draft Preview for Local College-age eligible players of note.
