7IP 3H 0R 3BB 4K.\u00a0 He wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the third and then retired 10 straight to close out 7 complete.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chris McKenzie<\/strong> pulled himself out of the coach&#8217;s doghouse with his 7IP 4H 0R 1BB 2K performance on 5\/2.\u00a0 I&#8217;d like to see more swing-and-miss out of him, but 7 scoreless is good enough in my book.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brad Peacock<\/strong> had another ho-hum great outing on 5\/3:\u00a0 7IP 2H 0R 1BB 8K.\u00a0\u00a0 His <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleaguebaseball.com\/milb\/stats\/stats.jsp?pos=P&amp;sid=milb&amp;t=p_pbp&amp;pid=502748\">season numbers<\/a> are almost comically good right now.\u00a0\u00a0 1.16 era, 0.76 whip.\u00a0 36\/4 k\/bb ratio in 31 innings.\u00a0 One has to think he&#8217;s the next to move up to AAA.\u00a0 His performance earned a mention on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseballamerica.com\/today\/prospects\/prospect-hot-sheet\/2011\/2611699.html\">Baseball America&#8217;s hotsheet<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/firejimbowden.blogspot.com\/2011\/05\/brad-peacock-makes-hot-sheet.html\">h\/t to Steven Biel at FJB<\/a> for the link)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brad Meyers<\/strong>, as with Peacock<strong>, <\/strong>put in another solid outing on 5\/4: 7IP 8H 2R 2ER 0BB 7K.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t quite as dominant as in the past, but it was good enough to earn him a promotion (see notes below).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tom Milone<\/strong> had a fantastic rebound start on 5\/5 for Syracuse: 7IP 4H 1R 1ER 1BB 11K.\u00a0 Eleven strikeouts in 7 innings for the young left-hander.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bad<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mitchell Clegg<\/strong>&#8216;s outing is only in the &#8220;bad&#8221; section because there isn&#8217;t an &#8220;unbelievably bad&#8221; section.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s his line from his 5\/3 start in Potomac: 3\u2154 IP 13H 11R 7ER 1BB 1K 1HR.\u00a0 Thirteen hits in 3 2\/3&#8217;s inning; that&#8217;s like a line from one of my adult baseball leagues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mediocre\/Inconclusive<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;ll give <strong>Taylor Jordan<\/strong> and incomplete for his 5\/3 outing, shortened when he took a line-drive off his non-pitching elbow.\u00a0 Line upon exit: 2\u2153 IP 3H 1R 1ER 0BB 0K.\u00a0 He ended up going on the DL as a precaution, allowing the team to add 2010 draft pick <strong>Neil Holland<\/strong> for his first appearance in full season A ball.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Trevor Holder<\/strong> may be holding onto his starter&#8217;s job a bit longer, after putting in a serviceable 5\/4 start in Potomac.\u00a0 Line: 5+ IP 5H 2R 2ER 0BB 3K.\u00a0 He was ejected in the top of the 6th for arguing a safe\/out call at first.\u00a0 His performance was probably closer to good than bad; the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.minorleaguebaseball.com\/milb\/stats\/stats.jsp?sid=milb&amp;t=g_log&amp;gid=2011_05_04_myrafa_potafa_1\">hits were well scattered<\/a>, the 2nd earned run was charged to him when his replacement (<strong>Dean Weaver<\/strong>) walked, hit a guy and then walked a run home in a situation that had to drive the starter crazy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shairon Martis<\/strong> was able to improve on his bad form, but still put in a relatively mediocre AA start on 5\/5.\u00a0 Line: 5IP 7H 3R 2ER 3BB 5K 1HR.\u00a0 That&#8217;s 10 baserunners in 5 innings for a former major league starter.\u00a0 He doesn&#8217;t seem to be in immediate jeopardy of losing his rotation spot, but it could come soon.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paul Demny<\/strong> got no offensive support and took the loss despite his quality start for Potomac on 5\/5.\u00a0 Line: 6IP 4H 2R 2ER 4BB 3K.\u00a0 The walks knocked this to the &#8220;so-so&#8221; category.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bobby Hansen<\/strong> put a lot of baserunners on, but his hitters bashed their way to a Win for him for Hagerstown on 5\/5.\u00a0 Line: 5IP 8H 2R 2ER 1BB 3K.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Craig Stammen<\/strong> gave up quite a few hits on 5\/6, and it ended up costing him.\u00a0 9 hits through 6 innings, but what did him in was the two hits he gave up to open the 7th, which were subsequently inherited and scored on his reliever&#8217;s watch.\u00a0 So in the end, not the worst outing of his career but bad enough to tag him with a loss.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Erik Davis<\/strong> started out his outing dominantly (facing the minimum through four), but leaked a couple runs in the 5th before giving up another 3 (though they ended up being unearned) in the 6th.\u00a0 Final line: 5\u2154 IP 4H 5R 2ER 3BB 3K.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Matt Grace<\/strong> had a quality start on 5\/6, but too many walks pushed his performance into the mediocre.\u00a0 Line; 6\u2153 IP 6H 2R 1ER 3BB 3K.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Relievers of Note and other Thoughts<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Per a <a href=\"http:\/\/web.minorleaguebaseball.com\/milb\/stats\/stats.jsp?t=l_trn&amp;lid=122&amp;sid=l122\">flurry of Potomac roster moves<\/a> on 5\/4, <strong>Cameron Selik<\/strong> got a well deserved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masnsports.com\/byron_kerr\/2011\/05\/seliks-dominance-earns-promotion-to-potomac.html\">promotion<\/a> to Potomac.\u00a0\u00a0 Whose rotation spot does he take?\u00a0 My guess is <strong>Holder<\/strong>&#8216;s, since it seems to match up with Selik&#8217;s normal rest.\u00a0 That and Holder was probably the worst of the existing Potomac starters, Clegg&#8217;s awful night notwithstanding.<\/li>\n<li>Continuing the promotions news, on 5\/5 <strong>Brad Meyers<\/strong> earned a long-deserved <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masnsports.com\/byron_kerr\/2011\/05\/meyers-rewarded-with-double-a-promotion.html\">promotion to AAA<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;m guessing that <strong>JD Martin<\/strong> makes way in the Syracuse rotation, though the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.minorleaguebaseball.com\/milb\/stats\/stats.jsp?t=l_trn&amp;lid=117&amp;sid=t552\">corresponding move<\/a> seems to have been to demote <strong>Matt Chico<\/strong> to Harrisburg.<\/li>\n<li>Chico&#8217;s demotion may be a death knell for his career; after falling off the 40-man and being removed from the rotation, he&#8217;s put in a mediocre 5+ ERA so far as a middle reliever and now a 27 (soon to be 28) yr old in AA.\u00a0 That&#8217;s not good.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dean Weaver<\/strong> pops up as well, having been reinstated (and promoted from last season&#8217;s final destination) in Potomac from the opening day DL\/extended spring training.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ryan Mattheus<\/strong>, somewhat of a forgotten man in Harrisburg, got a 1 1\/3 inning save where he struck out all four guys for outs on 5\/2.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paul Applebee<\/strong> filled ably on very short notice, taking the mound after his starter got knocked from the game and gave Hagerstown enough quality long relief to preserve the win.\u00a0 His 5\/3 line: 3\u2154 2H 1R 1ER 0BB 0K 1HR.\u00a0 He still has an ugly 6.16 era on the season.\u00a0 Perhaps its his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleaguebaseball.com\/milb\/stats\/stats.jsp?pos=P&amp;sid=milb&amp;t=p_pbp&amp;pid=572348\">mustache<\/a>;
