put the player name into the search bar to get his seasonal stats<\/li>\n<li>The 2016\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/draft\/tracker\/#!ft=round&amp;fv=1\">MLB.com Draft Tracker<\/a> (which I believe is the best draft tracker out there) is the best place to get draft class information.<\/li>\n<li>The 2016 <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/news\/article\/183906680\/2016-draft-signing-and-bonus-tracker\/\">Bonus Tracker<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/186nm-v5F-zTCoR2Be7TFYM3e2cZ-gYi2WVqJLEkHdmc\/edit?hl=en#gid=1078892545\">Big Board<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1pZpAxtq3K6SxrHb6YSe3_NF6Cay0MkeYwW1Dc2_KHrE\/edit?hl=en#gid=0\">Draft Tracker<\/a> are the goto resources for prospects for any Nats fan.<\/li>\n<li>More obscure stats on players are sometimes found at places like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebaseballcube.com\/\">thebaseballcube.com<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/perfectgame.org\/\">perfectgame.org<\/a>, their college websites, twitter accounts for the players, and good old fashioned deep-dive googling.<\/li>\n<li>My <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1ufpQabmX1XLTN9ShcgBDOLeOnfoIQLfXlk01qelJZbA\/edit?usp=sharing\">historical list of Nats prospect rankings<\/a>, updated for all 2016 mid-season rankings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This review is especially important to follow because the high-school age\u00a0draftees in this 2012 class are Rule-5 eligible this coming off-season. \u00a0Not that there&#8217;s that many of them, but we&#8217;ll put a pin in this post when we eventually do Rule-5 Analysis later this month.<\/p>\n<p>With out further ado&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/8\/18\/3250593\/2012-first-round-draft-update\">Round 1<\/a>: (#<strong>16 overall) Lucas Giolito<\/strong>\u00a0HS RH Starting pitcher: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/giolilu01.shtml\">6.75 ERA in 21 1\/3 MLB innings<\/a>, 6-5 with a 2.97 ERA mostly in AA but with 7 starts in AAA. \u00a0116\/44 K\/BB in 115 1\/3 minor league innings. \u00a0I feel, much like the 2016 presidential election, that most of us are girded in our opinions on Giolito at this point. \u00a0I think Giolito&#8217;s entire season was tainted by the stories of mechanical tweaks done by some ne&#8217;er-do-weller in Viera, and his results on the field showed. \u00a0He struggled with command and hit-ability during his brief time with the MLB team, and his velocity was down from where we were &#8220;expecting&#8221; it to be. \u00a0Its important to remember that he just turned 22, that he lost a significant amount of development time because of his TJ surgery, and that we should be patient. \u00a0But he definitely has a &#8220;todo list&#8221; for 2017. \u00a0I&#8217;m projecting that he starts in AAA until he proves that he can command his fastball. \u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #339966;\">Matriculated to Majors<\/span>. \u00a0<strong>Post-writing update<\/strong>: Giolito headlined a trade for\u00a0<strong>Adam Eaton<\/strong>, heading to the White Sox. \u00a0On his way out the door, word was leaked to multiple reporters that the Nats had &#8220;soured&#8221; on Giolito, questioning his toughness and his ceiling. \u00a0Luckily for Giolito, the White Sox pitching coach (<strong>Don Cooper<\/strong>) is quite well regarded, so if there&#8217;s someone out there that can &#8220;fix&#8221; whatever&#8217;s wrong with him, its Cooper. \u00a0I&#8217;ve updated the summary for his departure, which significantly thins this draft class.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/8\/21\/3256465\/2012-baseball-draft-second-round-update\">Round 2<\/a>:\u00a0<strong>(80) Tony Renda<\/strong>, Coll Jr\u00a02B: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Traded to the Yankees on 6\/11\/15<\/span> for <strong>David Carpenter<\/strong>. \u00a0Renda then was included in the package that the Yankees sent to Cincinnati for\u00a0<strong>Aroldis Chapman<\/strong>. \u00a0For Cincinnati, Renda got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rendato01.shtml#trans\">67 ABs this year and hit .183<\/a>. \u00a0<strong>Post-writing update<\/strong><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>hat tip to commenter KW, Renda was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mlbtraderumors.com\/2016\/12\/reds-outright-tony-renda.html\">outrighted to AAA<\/a> earlier this month. \u00a0 He may have matriculated to the majors, but its safe to classify him as a AAA-ceiling player now.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/8\/22\/3258988\/2012-baseball-draft-update-third-round-picks\">Round 3<\/a>:\u00a0<strong>(111) Brett Mooneyham<\/strong>, Coll Jr LH starting pitcher: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Released him on 6\/3\/15.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/8\/23\/3263637\/2012-baseball-draft-review-fourth-round-updates\">Round 4<\/a>: (<strong>144) Brandon Miller<\/strong>\u00a0Coll Sr Corner OF: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Voluntarily retired\u00a0on 7\/10\/15<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/8\/27\/3270750\/2012-baseball-draft-update-on-fifth-round\">Round 5<\/a><strong>: (<\/strong><strong>174) Spencer Kieboom, <\/strong>Coll Jr\u00a0C: Slashed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.milb.com\/player\/index.jsp?sid=milb&amp;player_id=571851#\/career\/R\/hitting\/2016\/ALL\">.230\/.324\/.314<\/a>\u00a0in 309 ABs for AA Harrisburg. \u00a061\/43 K\/BB in 94 games splitting time behind the dish, 5 homers, 0 SB. \u00a0 Kieboom didn&#8217;t have the best numbers hitting in AA; he&#8217;s known for his defense. \u00a0He became the final nats 40-man call-up when\u00a0<strong>Wilson Ramos<\/strong> tore his ACL and got exactly one MLB at-bat (and thus permanently qualifying him for the MLB health plan for the rest of his days). \u00a0He&#8217;s a catcher on the 40-man roster; he&#8217;s going to play in 2017. \u00a0The question is where; right now depending on whether the team acquires another catcher,\u00a0<strong>Pedro Severino<\/strong> may get pushed back to AAA, which may very well keep Kieboom in AA starting. \u00a0Only makes sense. \u00a0But if the team decides to keep Severino up, then Kieboom moves up too. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Trending steady<\/span>. \u00a0<strong>Post-writing update<\/strong><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>the team went and acquired\u00a0<strong>Derek Norris<\/strong>, which now pushes Kieboom to 4th out of 4 on the depth chart, almost guaranteeing that he&#8217;ll be in AA again (you can&#8217;t have both Severino and Kieboom splitting time in AAA; that makes no sense). \u00a0 I don&#8217;t think this necessarily changes his projection, since\u00a0<strong>Jose Lobaton<\/strong> hits so poorly, but he does have to climb over Severino if he wants to matriculate permanently.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/8\/28\/3272905\/2012-baseball-draft-sixth-round-update\">Round 6<\/a><strong>: (<\/strong><strong>204) Hayden Jennings,\u00a0<\/strong>HS OF\/CF: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Released in May 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/8\/29\/3275238\/2012-baseball-draft-seventh-round-update\">Round 7<\/a>:\u00a0<strong>(234)\u00a0Robert Benincasa,<\/strong> Coll Jr. RH relief pitcher: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.milb.com\/player\/index.jsp?sid=milb&amp;player_id=581530#\/career\/R\/pitching\/2016\/ALL\">1-1 with a 4.50 ERA<\/a> in 21 appearances and 30 relief innings for AA. \u00a035\/14 K\/BB in 30 IP, 1.50 whip, 4.69 fip, .329 babip for AA. \u00a0Benincasa threw a few outings in Potomac but we&#8217;re just focusing on AA numbers here. \u00a0He repeated AA for the third successive season and had good K\/9 numbers but not much else in support. \u00a0I&#8217;m guessing he sticks around for one more season, likely in the AAA bullpen, and plays out the 6-year string before hitting MLFA after next season. \u00a0Unless he runs into a numbers game; there&#8217;s likely at least three 40-man roster guys that will get pushed to the AAA bullpen, limiting jobs for org-arms like Benincasa. \u00a0He could be a release candidate before the full season squads break next spring. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Trending down<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/8\/30\/3278360\/2012-baseball-draft-update-eighth-round\">Round 8<\/a>: (<strong>264)\u00a0Stephen Perez, <\/strong>Coll Jr.\u00a0SS: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.milb.com\/player\/index.jsp?sid=milb&amp;player_id=572028#\/career\/R\/hitting\/2016\/ALL\">Slashed\u00a0.249\/.351\/.342<\/a> playing middle infield for \u00a0Harrisburg. \u00a059\/47 K\/BB in 301 ABs, 5 homers, 12SB. \u00a0Perez was a\u00a0<strong>Ben Zobrist<\/strong>-like player for AA, getting PT at all four infield positions plus left field. \u00a0His slash figures were definitely an improvement over prior seasons, and may have stabilized his chances of moving up. \u00a0All of the middle infielders for AAA this year are FAs (I believe) so there&#8217;s room for him to move up. \u00a0I don&#8217;t view him as anything other than an org-guy though, and (like Benincasa above) seems likely to play out his contract and hit MLFA next season. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Trending Steady<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/8\/31\/3280739\/2012-baseball-draft-ninth-round-update\">Round 9:<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(294) Derek Self<\/strong>, Coll Sr. RH relief pitcher: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.milb.com\/player\/index.jsp?sid=milb&amp;player_id=605464#\/career\/R\/pitching\/2016\/ALL\">4-2 with a 4.10 ERA <\/a>mostly with AA Harrisburg. \u00a043\/18 K\/BB in 52 2\/3 innings, 1.48 whip, 3.98 whip, .333 babip. \u00a0Self started the year briefly in Potomac&#8217;s bullpen but quickly returned to AA, where he spent most of the year. \u00a0He got a 9\/1 call-up to fill a bullpen spot in AAA. \u00a0He improved his ERA over last year&#8217;s AA session and continues to hang on despite his lack of draft pedigree. \u00a0 I don&#8217;t see that he&#8217;s earned a promotion to AAA, and with a potentially packed AAA bullpen he may be back in AA again or to be a release candidate at this point. \u00a0He turns 27 in January; I think the team knows what they have with him by this point. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Trending down<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/9\/1\/3283856\/2012-baseball-draft-tenth-round-update\">Round 10<\/a>:\u00a0<strong>(324) Craig Manuel,\u00a0<\/strong>Coll Sr C: \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Released 4\/2\/16<\/span> after (presumably) failing to win the backup catcher job at either Potomac or Harrisburg. \u00a0Time ran out for the locak product (born in Rockville, MD).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/9\/4\/3290209\/2012-baseball-draft-11th-round-update\">Round 11<\/a>:\u00a0<strong>(354) Brian Rauh<\/strong>, Coll Jr RH starter\/reliever: \u00a0Missed the entire 2016 season due to injury. \u00a0 Borrowing from last year&#8217;s analysis, if he&#8217;s healthy expect him to contend for the AA rotation in 2017. \u00a0If he&#8217;s not healthy, he&#8217;s a release candidate at this point.\u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Trending down<\/span>.<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/9\/6\/3297707\/2012-baseball-draft-12th-round-review\">Round 12<\/a><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(384) Carlos Lopez,\u00a0<\/strong>Coll Sr 1B: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Released on 6\/30\/15<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/9\/7\/3300955\/2012-baseball-draft-13th-round-performance-review#storyjump\">Round 13<\/a><strong>: (414) Elliott Waterman<\/strong>, Coll Jr LH reliever: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Released on 3\/15\/14<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/9\/11\/3316870\/2012-baseball-draft-14th-round-review\">Round 14<\/a>: (<strong>444) Jordan Poole<\/strong>, Juco-2 corner OF: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Released him on 3\/14\/14<\/span>\u00a0<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/9\/13\/3324152\/2012-baseball-draft-15th-round-update\">Round 15<\/a>: (<strong>474)\u00a0Brandon Smith, OF:<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Didn&#8217;t sign<\/span>. \u00a0Attended Division II <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gculopes.com\/schedule.aspx?path=baseball\">Grand Canyon University<\/a>, where he played four years.\u00a0 He hit a robust .348\/.402\/.478 as a junior but wasn&#8217;t drafted, then slumped to hit just <a href=\"http:\/\/gculopes.com\/cumestats.aspx?path=baseball&amp;year=2016&amp;&amp;\">.233 his senior year<\/a>. \u00a0Again not drafted, might be done with baseball.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorleagueball.com\/2012\/9\/19\/3354594\/2012-baseball-draft-16th-round-in-review\">Round 16<\/a>: (<strong>504) Ronald Pena,\u00a0<\/strong>Juco-2 RH starter\/reliever: threw just 8 innings for Low-A Hagerstown before hitting the D\/L in late April; he graduated in 2016 and now works in the DC area. \u00a0I&#8217;ll venture a guess that this was a &#8220;favor pick&#8221; to someone with ties to the organization.<\/p>\n<p>Round 37:\u00a0<strong>Tyler Watson, LHP<\/strong>:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">didn&#8217;t sign<\/span>.\u00a0 Attended <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebaseballcube.com\/teams\/stats.asp?Y=2013&amp;T=20454\">Kansas U<\/a> for a year, then bounced to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/draft\/index.cgi?key_school=db1c44b8&amp;exact=1&amp;query_type=key_school\">McLennan Community College<\/a> in Waco, TX and and got drafted by the Angels in the 38th round of the 2014 draft. \u00a0He had a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.milb.com\/player\/index.jsp?sid=milb&amp;player_id=623360#\/career\/R\/pitching\/2016\/ALL\">3.42 ERA<\/a> for the Angels&#8217; right now, and there&#8217;s rather fierce debate about his &#8220;ceiling.&#8221; \u00a0 Renda technically has matriculated to the majors as well, but his .183 BA there isn&#8217;t exactly all-star calibre (and he was just outrighted, meaning he may be downgraded to &#8220;peak before majors&#8221; in future versions of this post). \u00a0Kieboom is on the 40-man roster but is <del>3rd out of 3<\/del>\u00a04th out of 4 on the Nats Catcher depth chart and may not even play in AAA next \u00a0year. \u00a0 The only other two guys remaining from this draft class even projected to be trending steady\u00a0are both clearly org-guys who are playing out the string (Perez, Orlan). \u00a0Of the 8 remaining players from this draft, Giolito is on the 40-man and no one else merited any discussion for Rule 5 protection this coming December.<\/p>\n<p>If there was some complaint about the 2013 draft class &#8230;
