{"id":13290,"date":"2016-12-31T12:02:44","date_gmt":"2016-12-31T17:02:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=13290"},"modified":"2016-12-31T12:02:44","modified_gmt":"2016-12-31T17:02:44","slug":"the-12-posts-of-2016-happy-new-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=13290","title":{"rendered":"The 12 Posts of 2016; Happy New Year!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year! \u00a0Here&#8217;s\u00a0a quick list of posts recapping the most &#8220;significant&#8217; events month over month.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>January:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=11890\">Drew Storen for Ben Revere; a trade that seems to work on both sides<\/a>: In the end, not so much. \u00a0<strong>Revere<\/strong> lost his job and was non-tendered, <strong>Storen<\/strong> had a 6.21 ERA for Toronto before getting flipped to Seattle.<\/li>\n<li>February:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=11953\">Spring Training 2016 NRI discussion<\/a>: a review of all the Non Roster Invitees to 2016&#8217;s spring training; one eventually made the team (<strong>Chris Heisey<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>March:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=10877\">Local HS draft-prospects to keep an eye in for the 2016 draft<\/a>: 2016 was a banner year for local prep players, with two high-end picks from the Northern Virginia Area (<strong>Joe\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Rizzo<\/strong> and <strong>Khalil Lee<\/strong>), a 4th rounder out of the Richmond area (<strong>Brenan Hanifee<\/strong>), a 12th rounder from West Potomac who I had never heard of prior to his drafting (<strong>Jamie Sara<\/strong>), a 17th rounder from Maryland who I&#8217;m surprised wasn&#8217;t drafted earlier (<strong>Tyler Blohm<\/strong>), plus the expected slew of 30th+ round picks. \u00a02017 isn&#8217;t looking nearly as promising.<\/li>\n<li>April:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12135\">Nats Prospects: Where to see them in 2016<\/a>: I&#8217;ll do this again in 2017 &#8230; but its going to be a significantly different list of prospects after all the trades we&#8217;ve done.<\/li>\n<li>May:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12195\">Strasburg Extension Shocker<\/a>! Pretty much the highest-risk thing that this management team has done. \u00a0Bigger than the\u00a0<strong>Werth<\/strong> signing, more risky than the\u00a0<strong>Scherzer<\/strong> signing.<\/li>\n<li>June:\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12570\">Those guys can kiss my *ss<\/a>!&#8221; \u00a0Still makes me laugh. \u00a0Too bad we didn&#8217;t get to meet the Cubs in the NLCS.<\/li>\n<li>July:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12807\">Thou shalt not overreact to a blown save.<\/a>.. . \u00a0And of course they did, flipping two lefty arms for a couple \u00a0months of\u00a0<strong>Mark Melancon<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>August:\u00a0Do the Nats have a LOOGY problem? \u00a0<strong>Mike Rizzo<\/strong> certainly thought so, trading future Hall of Famer\u00a0<strong>Max Schrock<\/strong> for\u00a0<strong>Marc Rzepczynski<\/strong> for the stretch run.<\/li>\n<li>September:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12868\">Strasburg Flexor Mass; what&#8217;s plan B for the playoffs?<\/a>\u00a0 Plan Be turned out to be a shaky\u00a0<strong>Joe Ross<\/strong>, but that wasn&#8217;t the reason we lost the NLDS. \u00a0At least Strasburg wasn&#8217;t badly hurt.<\/li>\n<li>October:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=13018\">NLDS Game 5 via my &#8220;live texting&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0Made possibly by virtue of my texting back and forth late into the night with a buddy; it was a telling revisiting of the Game 5 meltdown.<\/li>\n<li>November:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12966\">Rule 5 protection analysis for 2016<\/a>: the team ends up protecting 5 players, including future Hall of Famer and NAR lightening rod\u00a0<strong>Matt Skole<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>December:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=13226\">Huge Over-Pay for Eaton<\/a> : the biggest trade of the Rizzo era goes down and its a large price to pay, but it also illustrates the modern economics of the game, where a cost controlled player is expensive to acquire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Happy New Year! \u00a0 January will have a couple of &#8220;clear the draft posts&#8221; articles about awards season, some HoF stuff probably since I just can&#8217;t resist, then I hope to get into the pitching staff reviews so that I can make 2017 staff predictions. \u00a0That&#8217;s the near-term plan!<\/p>\n<p>Todd<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year! \u00a0Here&#8217;s\u00a0a quick list of posts recapping the most &#8220;significant&#8217; events month over month.
