its tournament time so might as well get started.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the rough schedule of posting and what we&#8217;ll cover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>#1: DC\/MD\/VA District High School Tournament Report: post-season kickoff (<strong>this post<\/strong>).\u00a0 Covers: MD regionals, VA district brackets, Private school tourney updates.\u00a0 Usually publishes the week before Memorial day tournament finals.<\/li>\n<li>#2: Maryland State Champs, Northern VA Regional\u00a0Champs crowned.\u00a0 Covers: MD state finals, VA regionals\u00a0tourneys, DC regular season results.\u00a0 Usually publishes after the Memorial Day weekend tournaments finish up.<br \/>\n#3: Virginia Regional Results, DC Tourneys.\u00a0 Covers: VA regional results, State brackets, DC tourney results.\u00a0 Usually publishes the first week of June.<br \/>\n#4: Final Prep Baseball Update: Virginia State Champions crowned.\u00a0 Covers: VA state tourneys, recaps MD, DC, Private School results.\u00a0 Publishes mid-June once the Va state tourney wraps up.<\/li>\n<li>#5: Players of the Year\/All-State lists and final rankings; publishes early July once all the all-state lists are published.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Northern Virginia<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Virginal district tournaments get started last weekend and most are scheduled to finish this week.\u00a0 The VHSL site has some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/athletics.baseball.baseball-conference-region-results\">district brackets already published.<\/a>\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.novabaseballmagazine.com\/#!6a-conference-5\/ct92\">NovaBaseballMagazine<\/a> has done a great job keeping up conference results and has links to the conference tournaments under its &#8220;Standings&#8221; links.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a preview of the district tournaments for local conferences with the leading contenders.<\/p>\n<p>The top four teams from each district tourney form the 16-team regional brackets, to be published later on once all the divisions are finalized.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">6-A\u00a0Conference 5\/Concorde<\/span>:\u00a0<\/strong>Oakton beat Westfield for a district title repeat, not giving up a run in the process. \u00a0Robinson and the dangerous Centreville also advance.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>6-A Conference 6\/Liberty<\/strong><\/span>: Madison\u00a0squeaked by\u00a0Langley for their 5th straight conference title; they finished the year with just two losses. \u00a0South Lakes and McLean also advance to regionals.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>6-A\u00a0Conference 7\/Potomac<\/strong><\/span>: West Springfield blanked\u00a0South County in the final, Lake Braddock (the #1 seed) and West Potomac also advance to regionals.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>6-A Conference 8\/ Cedar Run<\/strong><\/span>: Patriot cruised to the district title over Osborne Park. \u00a0Osborn and Battlefield also advance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regional Preview: The four expected #1 seeds advanced easily; Oakton, Madison, West Springfield and Patriot. \u00a0Unfortunately the two best teams (Oakton and Madison) are on the same side of the bracket. \u00a0I&#8217;m predicting a Madison-Patriot regional final and a Madison victory in a down year for the region.<\/p>\n<p>In the 5-A division:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>5-A Conference 13\/Capitol<\/strong><\/span>: Marshall\u00a0repeated as district winner, with Wakefield and Edison advancing to regionals.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>5-A Conference 14<\/strong><\/span>: Briar Woods upset #1 Stone Bridge for the district title, with Broad Run advancing to regionals.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>5-A Conference 15<\/strong><\/span>: Potomac took the title over upset-minded North Stafford. \u00a0 #1 seed Stafford also advanced to regionals.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>5-A Conference 16<\/strong><\/span>: #1 seed Halifax cruised to the district title. \u00a0Orange and Atlee also advanced to regionals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regional Preview:\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.novabaseballmagazine.com\/2017-vhsl-post-season\">5-a Regional bracket<\/a>): I&#8217;m predicting a Potomac-Marshall regional final with Potomac taking the title. \u00a0We&#8217;ll see how good Halifax is soon enough; they face off against perennial power Stone Bridge in the regional quarters. \u00a0Prep Report thinks Halifax is the best 5-A team in the state&#8230; but Stone Bridge just handled Stafford easily enough, who they thought were #2.<\/p>\n<p>There are some DC-local teams in the 4th and smaller divisions (mostly in Loudoun County).\u00a0 We&#8217;ll go through them once their brackets are made available on VHSL.\u00a0 The best 4-A team out there is probably Kettle Run, #1 in Nova Baseball Magazine&#8217;s rankings.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Maryland<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At this point, the Maryland State tournament is nearly complete; the state finals are this weekend. \u00a0Brackets here at the <a href=\"http:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/\">MPSAA website<\/a> and direct links to the four State-wide brackets are linked directly below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/?bracket=828\">Maryland 4-A<\/a><\/span>: 2012 champ Northwest defeated several perennial powerhouses to take the 4A-West region title. \u00a0Eleanor Roosevelt won an upset-laden 4A-South regional. \u00a0#1 seed and powerhouse Severna Park won the 4A-East title with ease, while Baltimore-based Howard upset several perennial contenders to take the 4A-North title. \u00a0In the state semis, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/northwest-wears-down-eleanor-roosevelt-to-earn-berth-in-maryland-4a-baseball-state-title-game\/2017\/05\/23\/01e7bbd4-4008-11e7-9851-b95c40075207_story.html?utm_term=.ba7317e2251a\">Howard and Northwest<\/a> advanced to meet in the state final.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/?bracket=827\">Maryland 3-A<\/a>: Poolesville over Thomas Johnson in the 3A-East, Huntington upsettting Rockville to win 3A-South, 2014 4-A state champ Chesapeake-AA beat River Hill to take the 3A-East, and 2010 state champ C. Milton Wright over Landsdown in a Baltimore-laden 3A-North Regional. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/northwest-wears-down-eleanor-roosevelt-to-earn-berth-in-maryland-4a-baseball-state-title-game\/2017\/05\/23\/01e7bbd4-4008-11e7-9851-b95c40075207_story.html?utm_term=.ba7317e2251a\">Poolesville will take on Chesapeake<\/a> in the 3A-final.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/?bracket=826\">Maryland 2-A<\/a>: Middletown won the 2A-East, two-time defending 2-A champ Southern\u00a0was beaten by former 3-A powerhouse La Plata in the 2A-South final, Fallston won 2A-East and last year&#8217;s finalist Eastern Tech won 2A-South. \u00a0Middletown and Fallston will battle for the state title.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mpssaa.countysportszone.com\/?bracket=825\">Maryland 1-A<\/a>:\u00a0 (mostly smaller schools outside the DC area):\u00a0Three\u00a0repeat regional titleists\u00a0in St. Michaels, \u00a0Patterson Mill, \u00a0and Pikesville, joined by Boonsboro. \u00a0Boonsboro will battle St. Michaels for the state title.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>DC<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/thedciaa.com\/apps\/pages\/index.jsp?uREC_ID=218108&amp;type=d&amp;termREC_ID=&amp;pREC_ID=425994\">DCIAA<\/a>: (<a href=\"http:\/\/thedciaa.com\/ourpages\/auto\/2016\/5\/31\/50155803\/DCIAA%202017%20HS%20Baseball%20Playoff%20Bracket%20-%20Updated%205-15-17.pdf\">2017 playoff bracket<\/a>): Wilson defeated School Without Walls 7-4 to take the DCIAA title and continue its ridiculous winning streak within DC public school competition.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcsaasports.org\/\">DCSAA<\/a>: (<a href=\"https:\/\/dcsaasports.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/2017-Baseball-Bracket-6.pdf\">2017 Playoff Bracket<\/a>): Gonzaga beat Wilson 9-1 to win the DCSAA baseball title (Wilson upset St. Albans to make the final).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Private Leagues: WCAC\/MAC\/IAC and VISAA\/Maryland Private<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>State-level Private School tourneys:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.miaasports.net\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=256&amp;Itemid=65&amp;cf=2&amp;sp=12&amp;pgnc=1\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">MIAA<\/span><\/a>: Calvert Hall, Spalding and Gilman were the class of the MIAA Class A all \u00a0year. \u00a0Boys Latin takes the Class B regular season title while St. Johns Catholic is again the Class C regular season title winner. \u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/bs-va-sp-miaa-a-baseball-final-0523-20170522-story.html\">Loyola came out of nowhere to beat Calvert Hall<\/a> in the MIAA-A playoffs. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.capitalgazette.com\/sports\/high_school_sports\/ph-ac-cs-baseball-severn-boys-latin0523-20170522-story.html\">Boy&#8217;s Latin beat Severn<\/a> to take the MIAA-B final. \u00a0St. Johns Catholic ended up beating Gerstell 5-0 to win its 4th straight MIAA-C title.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visaa.org\/sports\/baseball\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">VISAA<\/span><\/a>: The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visaa.org\/sports\/baseball\/tournament-brackets\/\">VISAA playoff brackets<\/a>\u00a0show the top 8 private schools in each Virginia division. \u00a0In Division I; DC local schools Paul VI and Potomac School were upset early, with #3 seed Benedictine taking the VISAA Division I title. \u00a0The Miller School took the Division II title with defending champ Greenbrier Christian getting upset in the first round. \u00a0Southampton Academy repeated as VISSA Division III titleists.<\/li>\n<li>We are waiting for the Maryland Private School Tournament to be announced; it should have some of the better private schools from Maryland, including the non-affiliated but perennial powerhouse Riverdale Baptist.\u00a0 Details coming later. \u00a0It should be interesting to see if the big time MD MIAA schools can touch the nationally ranked Riverdale school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DC-area Private School Leagues<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">WCAC<\/span>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/st-johns-defeats-dematha-6-1-to-capture-fourth-straight-wcac-baseball-title\/2017\/05\/14\/12797918-3907-11e7-a058-ddbb23c75d82_gallery.html?utm_term=.5592e533e15d\">St. Johns defeated DeMatha<\/a> 6-1 to take its 4th straight WCAC title. \u00a0Paul VI and Our Lady Good Counsel were semi-finalists.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">MAC: <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flinthill.org\/highlights\/huskies-capture-mac-tournament-championship\/\">Flint Hill\u00a0defeated Maret<\/a> to win the MAC 2017 baseball title, repeating as winners.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">IAC<\/span>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/st-albans-overcomes-tough-iac-start-finishes-with-leagues-baseball-title\/2017\/05\/17\/14688912-3b00-11e7-8854-21f359183e8c_story.html?utm_term=.29e77d318e9b\">St. Albans beat Georgetown Prep<\/a> to win the IAC title.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">PVAC<\/span>: no news yet on this smaller private DC-area conference; they may not even play baseball.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Local and National High School Baseball Ranking Lists<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Washington Post All Met Sports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/allmetsports\/2017-spring\/rankings\/baseball\/?utm_term=.d36d305393f3\">Area top-10 ranking:<\/a>\u00a0Riverdale Baptist has been in a class by themselves all year. \u00a0Madison and Spalding have been just below.<\/li>\n<li>NovaBaseballMagazine.com <a href=\"http:\/\/www.novabaseballmagazine.com\/rankings\">Rankings<\/a>: Kettle Run and Madison\u00a0have dominated the rankings all year.<\/li>\n<li>PrepBaseballReport maintains a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prepbaseballreport.com\/virginia\/powerrankings\">VA State-Wide Power25 Rankings<\/a>: they have Patriot over Madison, with 6A-south Woodside and Cox at the top. \u00a0In the private Ranks, Miller and Greenbrier Christian 1-2.<\/li>\n<li>Baltimore Sun <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/sports\/bal-hspolls-storygallery.html\">Top-10 Poll Archives<\/a>:\u00a0Calvert Hall and Severna Park at the top, both upset victims in their playoffs.<\/li>\n<li>The Virginian Pilot <a href=\"http:\/\/pilotonline.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/rankings-top-baseball-teams-in-south-hampton-roads\/article_fe997d65-9969-5b4a-8cf6-8846943c7488.html\">Top-10 for Hampton Roads<\/a> area: Hickory and Great Bridge at the top, with a gap below them.<\/li>\n<li>Richmond times-Dispatch <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richmond.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/article_99c8dc50-1933-11e6-88c1-7327fa2b641f.html\">Richmond-Area top-10<\/a>:Mils Godwin, Glen Allen, Deep Run, Lee-Davis and Freeman.<\/li>\n<li>Baseball America&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseballamerica.com\/high-school\/high-school-top-25-may-16-baseball-rankings\/#uRHilehiZFkXDKQD.97\">National High School Rankings 5\/16\/17<\/a>: Riverdale Baptist at #16.<\/li>\n<li>USA Today High School <a href=\"http:\/\/usatodayhss.com\/rankings\/expert\/boys\/baseball\/2016\/9\">Experts top 25 for 5\/25\/17<\/a>: Riverdale Baptist #9. \u00a0Calvert Hall previously ranked.<\/li>\n<li>MaxPreps <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maxpreps.com\/news\/Au5o4hb0Bk2Qdsl7QehyTg\/maxpreps-top-50-national-high-school-baseball-rankings.htm\">&#8220;Excellent 50&#8221; ranking for 5\/22\/17<\/a>: Riverdale Baptist #6.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These National rankings are dominated by teams in Texas, Florida and California, as you might expect.\u00a0 These teams can play nearly 40 games and usually have at least 15-20 under their belts before DC\/MD\/VA teams even get going.\u00a0 So its somewhat of an accomplishment just to have a local team get some recognition.\u00a0 In fact, any cold-weather state team appearing in these lists is pretty special.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Major Newspaper Links\/Resources<\/strong> for following prep baseball around the state<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Washington Post&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.allmetsports.com\/\">AllMetSports<\/a>\u00a0section with standings and schedule results.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/sports\/high-school\/\">Baltimore Sun&#8217;s high school page<\/a>\u00a0has information on some of the programs outside the DC area mentioned in the Maryland section<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.insidenova.com\/sports\/\">InsideNova.com<\/a>&#8216;s coverage of high school sports, but has put limits on the number of stories you can read.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.richmond.com\/sports\/high-school\/\">Richmond Times-Dispatch<\/a>\u00a0has a HS scoreboard.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hamptonroads.com\/pilot\/sports\">Hampton Roads Pilot<\/a>\u00a0(Hampton Roads) has scores for teams in the Chesapeake\/Norfolk\/Va Beach area.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.novabaseballmagazine.com\/\">NovaBaseballMagazine<\/a>: great coverage of Prep baseball in NorthernVirginia (thanks to <strong>Joe Antonellis<\/strong> for the heads up on this great new resource).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Local Newspaper Coverage<\/strong>, including links to many local papers covering smaller jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.connection-sports.com\/news\/Sports\/Baseball\/\">Connection family of newspapers<\/a>\u00a0has a sports section that is rarely updated, but it does do some coverage.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nvdaily.com\/sports\/\">Nvdaily.com<\/a>\u00a0(Strasburg) has some results for some of the teams in the smaller conferences\/outskirts of DC, generally in the Strasburg area.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.winchesterstar.com\/subchannel\/sports_headlines\">WinchesterStar<\/a> (Winchester) has results for Winchester teams but its pay-only.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyprogress.com\/starexponent\/sports\/high_school\/\">The Daily Progress<\/a>\u00a0(Culpeper local paper) also has some scores for schools in its areas.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fauquier.com\/sports\/\">Fauquier Times<\/a> (Fauquier) has some local sports news.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vivaloudoun.com\/category\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/\">VivaLoudoun<\/a> tracks the Loudoun\/Ashburn\/Leesburg teams.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loudountimes.com\/sports\">The Loudoun Times<\/a> also covers Leesburg-area teams.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/locosportsnews.wordpress.com\/category\/sports\/baseball\/\">LoCosports blog<\/a>, with tons of Loudoun county Coverage<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredericksburg.com\/sports\/\">Fredericksburg.com<\/a>\u00a0has some local coverage of Fredericksburg and Woodbridge teams.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsadvance.com\/sports\/\">Lynchburg News &amp;
