publishes early July once all the all-state lists are published.<\/li>\n<li>#5: final post with all content in one place, plus my Ficticious tournament of Champs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lost in the shuffle of last week&#8217;s Draft and CWS regionals was the Virginia state finals. \u00a0This post is more than a week old now, but here&#8217;s a rundown of the Virginia finals.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Virginia State tourney match-ups and tourney locations<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>All the state tourneys ran from June 8th-10th at the various sites.\u00a0 All <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/athletics.baseball\">state brackets available from this link<\/a> at VHSL, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/athletics.baseball.baseball-conference-region-results\">district and regional brackets<\/a> are here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Semifinals and Finals:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1A\/2A<\/strong> &#8211; Spring Jubilee at Radford, Virginia Tech, June 8-10<br \/>\n<strong>3A\/4A<\/strong> &#8211; Spring Jubilee at Salem, June 9-10<br \/>\n<strong>5A\/6A<\/strong>&#8211; Spring Jubilee at James Robinson\/Westfield, June 9-10<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>6-A State Finals<\/strong><\/span>: held at Robinson and Westfield HS in Northern Virginia.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6-A North Winner Oakton,\u00a0runner-up Patriot<\/li>\n<li>6-A South Win<span style=\"color: #000000;\">ner Cox, runner-up Western Branch<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>6-A State Semis Results: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/oaktons-magic-runs-out-patriot-offense-goes-quiet-in-va-6a-baseball-semifinals\/2017\/06\/09\/1aa9609a-4d10-11e7-a186-60c031eab644_story.html?nid&amp;utm_term=.a0af3722846d\">Both North Regional teams fell short in the state-semis<\/a>; Oakton lost to Western Branch 3-0, while Patriot lost to a solid Cox team 4-1. \u00a0Oakton finishes the year 19-8, Patriot 21-4.<\/p>\n<p>6-A State Final: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Western Branch<\/strong><\/span> got revenge on Cox for the Regional final, <a href=\"http:\/\/pilotonline.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/western-branch-rallies-past-cox-for-group-a-baseball-championship\/article_a51445b5-c415-538e-a10b-aa23d39539d0.html\">winning\u00a06-4<\/a> for their 2nd state championship in four years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>5-A State Finals<\/strong><\/span>: held at Robinson and Westfield HS in Northern Virginia.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5-A North Winner\u00a0Briar Woods, runner-up Halifax<\/li>\n<li>5-A South Win<span style=\"color: #000000;\">ner\u00a0Prince George, runner-up Menchville.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>5-A State Semis Results: \u00a0Briar Woods kept up its great post-season run, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/riverside-earns-spot-in-3a-state-championship-game-with-18-6-victory\/2017\/06\/09\/40f7fedc-4d10-11e7-a186-60c031eab644_story.html?utm_term=.0cdeee202da6\">topping Menchville 6-1<\/a> to earn a state final bid. \u00a0Halifax threw state player of the year\u00a0<strong>Andrew Abbott<\/strong>, who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richmond.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/prince-george-s-bats-silenced-by-halifax-ace-in-state\/article_ae04bd04-4d41-11e7-aa64-3bff38b7cd27.html\">threw a 2-hitter<\/a> to shut down\u00a0the top team in the state Prince George and lead his team to a regional rematch in the state title game.<\/p>\n<p>5-A State Final: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Briar Woods<\/strong><\/span> 5 Halifax 4 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/it-took-14-innings-but-briar-woods-emerges-from-marathon-baseball-final-as-state-champion\/2017\/06\/10\/78f72aba-4d6a-11e7-a186-60c031eab644_story.html?utm_term=.24161ee1ef34\">in 14 grueling innings<\/a> on a hot saturday. \u00a0Great run for Briar Woods in the 2017 post-season.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>4-A State Finals<\/strong><\/span>: held in Salem, VA.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4-A East Winner\u00a0Hanover, runner-up Great Bridge<\/li>\n<li>4-A West Win<span style=\"color: #000000;\">ner Liberty Christian Academy, runner up Harrisonburg<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4-A State Semis Results: \u00a0In a result that even the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richmond.com\/sports\/high-school\/baseball\/hanover-scores-runs----seriously---\/article_7edd4810-4d7e-11e7-827d-93a7ea241215.html\">Richmond-Times had to explain<\/a>, Hanover defeated Harrisonburg HS 31-3. \u00a0Thirty One runs. \u00a0 In the other state semi, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsadvance.com\/sports\/high_school\/lca-baseball-wins-in-a-semifinal-will-play-saturday-for\/article_ff93f50e-4d2d-11e7-a8bb-5fddb9474cd3.html\">Liberty Christian eased past Great Bridge 7-4<\/a> to setup a rematch of last year&#8217;s ridiculously epic 13-12 4A State final.<\/p>\n<p>The 4-A final wasn&#8217;t nearly as amazing as last year&#8217;s game; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Liberty Christian Academy<\/strong><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsadvance.com\/sports\/high_school\/lca-wins-group-a-baseball-title-updated\/article_0b766cba-4e16-11e7-998b-67043987570b.html\">defeated Hanover 8-5<\/a> to take the title.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>3-A State Finals<\/strong><\/span>: held in Salem, VA.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3-A East Winner\u00a0Riverside runner-up\u00a0Spotsylvania<\/li>\n<li>3-A West Winner: Turner Ashby, runner-up\u00a0Brookville<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3-A State Semis Results: 2nd year program Riverside continues to impress, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/sports\/highschools\/riverside-earns-spot-in-3a-state-championship-game-with-18-6-victory\/2017\/06\/09\/40f7fedc-4d10-11e7-a186-60c031eab644_story.html?utm_term=.0cdeee202da6\">destroying Brookville 18-6<\/a> to earn a state title berth. \u00a0Turner Ashby <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnronline.com\/sports\/showalter-garber-lead-ta-back-to-state-title-game\/article_1fba625c-4d9a-11e7-baea-6b20cac5e98e.html\">took the other state semi final<\/a>\u00a0over Spotsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>In the final between Riverside\/Turner Ashby, Riverside&#8217;s run came to an end with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnronline.com\/update\/turner-ashby-wins-a-baseball-title\/article_b5ebf33a-4e30-11e7-8d28-7fc4479d6084.html\">14-3 demolition by 3A champs<\/a>\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Turner Ashby<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Smaller Classifications: <\/strong>held at Radford &amp; Va Tech.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/doc\/upload\/base-2017-2A-bracket4.pdf\">2-A match-ups<\/a>: Both 2A West teams won their semis, with Dan River beating Madison County and John Battle beating Goochland. \u00a0In the final,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Dan River<\/strong><\/span> 5, John Battle 4.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/doc\/upload\/base-2017-1A-bracket4.pdf\">1-A match-ups<\/a>: \u00a0Both regional runners-up upset regional champs in the semis, with Stonewall Jackson and Auburn HS advancing to the final. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Auburn<\/strong> <\/span>6 Stonewall Jackson 0 in the final.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Recent Virginia HS champs<\/strong><\/span>:\u00a0 Before 2014, we just AAA, AA and A; now we have 1-A through 6-A. \u00a0For next season (2018 for baseball)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vhsl.org\/doc\/upload\/alignment-2017-18-2018-19-final-district-alignment-plan.pdf\">they&#8217;re re-doing the classifications again<\/a>, changing up teams in divisions and regions but keeping the six classifications. \u00a0I don&#8217;t see any of the big-time 4A teams (Great Bridge, \u00a0Hanover, Liberty Christian) moving up though.<\/p>\n<p>2016: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=12376\">See this post for 2016&#8217;s state tournament wrap-up for all 6 divisions<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 6-A, Chantilly d Battlefield 3-2. \u00a0Hylton &amp; Cosby state semis.<\/li>\n<li>In 5-A,\u00a0Nansemond River defeated Mountain View 5-3. \u00a0Potomac, Mills Godwin semi finalists.<\/li>\n<li>In 4-A,\u00a0Hanover d Liberty Christian Academy 13-12. \u00a0Jamestown, Kettle Run semi finalists.<\/li>\n<li>In the smaller classifications, Rustberg\u00a0repeated 3-A, Maggie Walker won in 2-A and Rappahannock won 1-A.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2015: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=10813\">See this post for 2015&#8217;s state tournament wrapup for all 6 divisions<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 6-A, Madison d Chantilly 6-5.\u00a0 First Colonial &amp; defending champ Western Branch were state semifinalists.<\/li>\n<li>In 5-A, Stone Bridge d Marshall 9-4.\u00a0 2014 finalists Hickory &amp; Freeman were state semifinalists.<\/li>\n<li>In 4-A, Glen Allen d Jefferson Forrest 9-3.\u00a0 Fauquier &amp; Hanover were state semifinalists.<\/li>\n<li>In the smaller classifications, Lafayette won 3-A, Virginia High repeated in 2-A and William Campbell won 1-A.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2014: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=9271\">see this post for 2014&#8217;s state tournament wrap up for all 6 divisions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 6-A, Western Branch d Chantilly 6-4.\u00a0 McLean and Cosby were state semifinalists.<\/li>\n<li>In 5-A, Hickory d Freeman 6-4.\u00a0 Stone bridge and the surprising Freedom-South Riding semi finalists.<\/li>\n<li>In 4-A, Hanover d Millbrook 7-1.<\/li>\n<li>In the smaller classifications, Loudoun Valley won 3-A, Virginia High won 2-A and Northumberland won 1-A.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2013: AAA: Hanover d Great Bridge. Hanover&#8217;s super-junior <strong>Derek Casey<\/strong> (committed to UVA) outlasts Great Bridge and their 1st round talent <strong>Connor Jones<\/strong> (now attending UVA after spurning a likely late 1st round draft position). \u00a0Lake Braddock and Oakton beaten in the semis.<\/p>\n<p>2012: AAA: Lake Braddock d Kellam 4-0. Lake Braddock lost to West Springfield in the regional title game but then blitzed to\u00a0a state championship.<\/p>\n<p>2011: AAA: Great Bridge d South County in the state final, giving the powerful South County its first and only loss on the season after starting the season 28-0. \u00a0Lake Braddock was the regional finalist and lost to Great Bridge in the state quarters.<\/p>\n<p>2010: AAA: West Springfield d Woodbridge in the final, giving Woodbridge its only loss on the year.
