bracket to advance.\u00a0 Seed finish: 1-3-2-4<br \/>\n16.\u00a0<strong>Oregon State<\/strong>\u00a0region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Michigan<\/strong> <\/span>outlasted Creighton in this upset-filled regional.\u00a0 Host Oregon State, your defending National champ, was 2-and-out, robbing a national stage for its presumed #1 overall pick\u00a0<strong>Adley Rutschman<\/strong>.\u00a0 Seed finish: 3-2-4-1<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0<strong>Vanderbilt<\/strong>\u00a0region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Vanderbilt<\/strong><\/span> cruised to the title in this chalk regional.\u00a0 Seed finish: chalk 1-2-3-4<br \/>\n15.\u00a0<strong>West Virginia<\/strong>\u00a0region finish: #3 seed <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Duke<\/strong><\/span> got to WVU&#8217;s top pick\u00a0<strong>Alex Manoah<\/strong> in the winner&#8217;s bracket game and WVU couldn&#8217;t recover.\u00a0 Seed finish: 3-2-1-4<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0<strong>Georgia Tech<\/strong>\u00a0region finish:\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Auburn<\/span><\/strong> takes two close ones to beat the host and 3rd overall seed.\u00a0 Seed finish: 2-1-3-4<br \/>\n14. <b>UNC\u00a0<\/b>region finish:\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">UNC<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>topped all three teams en route to the title in a &#8220;familiar&#8221; regional of teams who play frequently.\u00a0 Seed finish: chalk 1-2-3-4.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0<strong>Georgia<\/strong>\u00a0region finish:\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Florida State<\/span><\/strong> advances as a #3 regional seed, battering the field by winnings its 3 games 13-7, 12-3, 10-1.\u00a0 Seed finish: 3-1-2-4.<br \/>\n13. <b>LSU\u00a0<\/b>region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>LSU<\/strong><\/span> held serve and advances.\u00a0 Seed finish: 1-3-2-4<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0<strong>Arkansas<\/strong>\u00a0region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Arkansas<\/strong><\/span> cruises undefeated to the win.\u00a0 Last-team-in TCU makes the regional final to prove critics wrong.\u00a0 \u00a0Seed finish: 1-3-4-2<br \/>\n12.\u00a0<strong>Ole Miss<\/strong>\u00a0region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Ole Miss<\/strong><\/span> fends off the feisty 4th seeded Jacksonville State to advance.\u00a0 \u00a0Overseeded Illinois goes 2-and-out.\u00a0 Seed finish: 1-4-3-2.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0<strong>Mississippi State<\/strong>\u00a0region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Mississippi State<\/strong><\/span> takes out Miami, who came out of the loser&#8217;s bracket to challenge.\u00a0 Seed finish chalk 1-2-3-4.<br \/>\n11.\u00a0<strong>Stanford<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Stanford\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>came out of the losers bracket to outlast upstart Fresno State in a monday finish.\u00a0 Seed finish: 1-3-4-2<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0<strong>Louisville<\/strong>\u00a0region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Louisville<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 came through the loser&#8217;s bracket to advance.\u00a0 This regional marred by a ridiculous &#8220;ump show&#8221; where the Louisville closer got ejected for saying &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/mlb\/news\/2019-ncaa-college-baseball-tournament-louisville-closer-controversially-ejected-with-two-outs-in-ninth-inning\/\">that&#8217;s horrible<\/a>&#8221; after a close call.\u00a0 4-game suspension.\u00a0 For saying two words, basically to himself.\u00a0 Seed finish: 1-3-2-4.<br \/>\n10.\u00a0<strong>ECU<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>ECU<\/strong> <\/span>survived an embarrassing opening loss to minnow Quinnipiac to advance past the surprising Campbell, who helped give ACC power NC State an equally embarrassing 2 and out.\u00a0 Seed finish: 1-3-4-2<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0<strong>Texas Tech<\/strong>\u00a0region finish: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Texas Tech<\/strong><\/span> won a straightforward regional, where Dallas Baptist beat Florida twice.\u00a0 Seed finish: chalk 1-2-3-4.<br \/>\n9.\u00a0<strong>Oklahoma State<\/strong>\u00a0region finish: <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Oklahoma State<\/span><\/strong> was extended an extra game by UConn but advanced.\u00a0 Seed fish: chalk 1-2-3-4 but not straight-forward way to get there.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Predictions versus Actuals<\/strong>: <\/span>no prediction piece this year for the Regionals.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">DC\/MD\/VA team performance at Regionals<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how teams of note either from the DC\/MD\/VA or with known players who hail from the region performed at Regionals.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coastal Carolina (which has several VA-tied players) finished 3rd in a tough regional.<\/li>\n<li>Liberty got a win, then got crushed by eventual regional champ UNC.<\/li>\n<li>Tennessee lost the 1st round behind VA based\u00a0<strong>Garrett Stallings<\/strong> on the mound, but rallied to make the regional final.\u00a0 they also feature 1B 3rd-4th rounder\u00a0<strong>Andre Lipicus<\/strong>, who hails from Williamsburg and got drafted in the 3rd round.<\/li>\n<li>UNC Wilmington (which has several VA-tied players) was 2-and-out in the UNC regional.<\/li>\n<li>ECU was a top-10 team all year and the #10th seed here.\u00a0 NoVa product\u00a0<strong>Jake Agnos<\/strong>\u00a0(4th round pick) pitched a great winner&#8217;s bracket game and gets another start in the Super Regional.<\/li>\n<li>West Virginia: has a few MD\/VA based freshman this\u00a0 year.<\/li>\n<li>Clemson has some VA-based depth that didn&#8217;t appear in the regional.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Summary of Regionals statistically<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 of 16\u00a0 hosts advanced.\u00a0 A very chalk-y CWS so far.\u00a0 Falling Seeds\/Hosts: #3 Georgia Tech, #4 Georgia, #16 Oregon State, #15 West Virginia,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>2 of the 8 national seeds fell: Georgia and Georgia Tech.<\/li>\n<li>2 of the 9-16 seeds fell: WVU and OSU.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 number one seeds, 1 number two seeds, 3 number three seeds, and 0 number four seeds advance to the super regionals. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>5 number of #4 seeds who didn\u2019t finish 4th in their regional; Cincinnati, Central Connecticut, Jacksonville State, Sacramento State. Quinnipiac.<\/li>\n<li>2: number of #4 seeds to get opening wins.\u00a0 Cincinnati beat Oregon State, Quinnipaic beat ECU.<\/li>\n<li>Most surprising regional winner: Michigan.<\/li>\n<li># of &#8220;extended&#8221; regionals: 5.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Conference Breakdowns of the teams in the Super Regionals<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SEC: Arkansas, Ole Miss, LSU, Auburn, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt<\/li>\n<li>ACC: FSU, UNC, Louisville, Duke<\/li>\n<li>Big12: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State<\/li>\n<li>Pac12: UCLA, Stanford<\/li>\n<li>Big 10: Michigan<\/li>\n<li>Others: ECU (AAC)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Very top heavy; but should be no match for UCLA.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>#8 Texas Tech vs #9 Oklahoma State: a Big12 showdown; they met in late april, a 3-game sweep at Texas Tech, where this will be hosted.\u00a0 I see a similar beat down this weekend.<\/li>\n<li>#5 Arkansas vs #12 Ole Miss:\u00a0SEC showdown: despite the seeding and despite home field advantage, Ole Miss took 2 of 3 in Arkansas at the end of March.\u00a0 The two teams then split games at the SEC tourney, with Ole Miss eliminating the Razorbacks.\u00a0 I like Ole Miss&#8217; chances here.<\/li>\n<li>Florida State\u00a0vs #13 LSU; a great match-up of traditional college baseball powers.\u00a0 LSU should advance, especially as the host seed even given Florida State&#8217;s pedigree.<\/li>\n<li>Auburn vs #14\u00a0UNC: I like Auburn here, who just beat a better ACC team than UNC to advance, despite UNC getting surprise super regional hosting duties.<\/li>\n<li>#6 Mississippi State\u00a0 vs #11 Stanford: While I like the Pac12 baseball this year, and at one point Stanford was much higher ranked, I don&#8217;t think they can hang with SEC royalty like Mississippi State.<\/li>\n<li>#7 Louisville vs #10 ECU: I don&#8217;t think ECU can hang with Louisville, especially after struggling with a relatively weak regional.<\/li>\n<li>#2 Vanderbilt vs Duke:\u00a0 a brain-y match-up of two great academic schools that have good baseball pedigree.\u00a0 But Vanderbilt should trounce Duke here as one of the best teams in the country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Predictions: #1 UCLA, #8 Texas Tech, #12 Ole Miss, #13 LSU, Auburn, #6 Mississippi State, #7 Louisville and #2 Vanderbilt<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Super Regional Star Power<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Lots of top-end draft picks will be playing this weekend, just ahead of the MLB draft which starts on 6\/12\/17.\u00a0 (note: I wrote most of the below before the draft and have not updated it with exact picks)\u00a0 By Super Regional:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#1 UCLA vs Michigan; 1st rounder\u00a0<strong>Michael Toglia<\/strong> and 2nd rounder\u00a0<strong>Chase Strumpf\u00a0<\/strong>pace UCLA&#8217;s offense.\u00a0 \u00a0Two Michigan starters (<strong>Tommy Henry<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Karl Kauffmann<\/strong>) were comp-b picks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>#8 Texas Tech vs #9 Oklahoma State: Mid-1st rounder\u00a0<strong>Josh Jung<\/strong> is TTU&#8217;s 3B, and likely 3rd rounder\u00a0<strong>Gabe\u00a0 Holt<\/strong> is on OF\/2B.<\/li>\n<li>#5 Arkansas vs #12 Ole Miss: Arkansas&#8217;
