Photo: www.graphicshunt.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Nov, 2010 Update<\/strong>: actual award winners:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>AL MVP: <a href=\"http:\/\/sports.espn.go.com\/dallas\/mlb\/news\/story?id=5841798&amp;campaign=rss&amp;source=ESPNHeadlines\"><strong>Josh Hamilton<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>AL Cy Young: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2010\/nov\/18\/mariners-hernandez-wins-al-cy-young\/\"><strong>Felix Hernandez<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>AL Rookie: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2010\/nov\/15\/posey-feliz-picked-as-rookies-of-the-year\/\">Neftali Feliz<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>AL Mgr: <a href=\"http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/2010\/baseball\/mlb\/11\/17\/black.gardenhire.ap\/index.html\"><strong>Ron Gardenhire<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>NL MVP: <a href=\"http:\/\/sports.espn.go.com\/mlb\/news\/story?id=5838600\"><strong>Joey Votto<\/strong><\/a>, named first on 31\/32 ballots.<\/li>\n<li>NL Cy Young: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/sports\/baseball\/nl\/phillies\/2010-11-16-nl-cy-young-award_N.htm?csp=34sports&amp;utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+UsatodaycomSports-TopStories+%28Sports+-+Top+Stories%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader\"><strong>Roy Halladay<\/strong><\/a>, unanimous.<\/li>\n<li>NL Rookie: <a href=\"http:\/\/mlb.mlb.com\/index.jsp#&amp;partnerId=rss_mlb\"><strong>Buster Posey<\/strong><\/a>, rather easily over Jayson Heyward<\/li>\n<li>NL Mgr: <a href=\"http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/2010\/baseball\/mlb\/11\/17\/black.gardenhire.ap\/index.html\"><strong>Bud Black<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Candidates and Guesses on the award winners for the 4 major categories per league.\u00a0 I originally wrote this towards the end of the season, and now am updating it based on how the season finished out.<\/p>\n<p>AL MVP: <strong>Josh Hamilton<\/strong> (<strong>Cano <\/strong>2nd unless voters get all NY-starry eyed).\u00a0 <strong>Miguel Cabrera<\/strong> getting is putting up serious numbers but the all around play of Hamilton is hard to miss.<\/p>\n<p>AL Cy Young: <strong>Felix Hernandez<\/strong>.\u00a0 Back in late august I had <strong>CC Sabathia<\/strong> winning this, but Felix&#8217;s statistics pitching for such a poor team are overwhelming.\u00a0 Mid summer, this was <strong>David Price<\/strong>&#8216;s award to lose and, well, he&#8217;s lost it.\u00a0 <strong>Cliff Lee<\/strong> was putting in a pretty strong summer as well but has really struggled since getting to Texas.\u00a0 Guys like <strong>Clay Buchholz<\/strong> (who led the Majors in ERA for a bit) and <strong>Trevor Cahill<\/strong> looking so strong.\u00a0 Lots of good starter performances in the AL this year.<\/p>\n<p>AL Rookie: <strong>Neftali Felix<\/strong>, who has been lights out for the Rangers as their closer.\u00a0 Guys like <strong>Austin Jackson<\/strong> and <strong>Brendan Boesch<\/strong> have tailed off.\u00a0 <strong>Daniel Bard<\/strong> really isn&#8217;t in a position as a setup guy to be the impact player the others are.\u00a0 Reaching the post season and putting up good numbers there didn&#8217;t hurt.<\/p>\n<p>AL Mgr: I&#8217;m going with Minnesota&#8217;s <strong>Ron Gardenhire<\/strong>.\u00a0 He coaxed 94 wins out of a team with a ho-hum pitching staff, a team that lost its closer in the pre-season and which didn&#8217;t have its leading slugger for the 2nd half of the season.\u00a0 <strong>Ron Washington<\/strong> also gets some credit, having taken a team with very little payroll to the top of their division.\u00a0 Its a bit less impressive though since the Rangers were already projecting to be a pretty good team.<\/p>\n<p>NL MVP: <strong>Joey Votto<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Pujols <\/strong>may be an equal, but Votto will win the &#8220;hey lets give it to someone else&#8221; crowd.\u00a0 I guess <strong>Adrian Gonzalez<\/strong> will come in a distant third.<\/p>\n<p>NL Cy Young: <strong>Roy Halladay<\/strong>, who has been consistently and quietly awesome so far this year.\u00a0 Again this was another&#8217;s to lose (<strong>Ubaldo Jimenez<\/strong>) and indeed he has lost it, performing so badly in the last month that I considering dropping him from my fantasy team.\u00a0 <strong>Wainwright<\/strong> is up there for consideration as well.\u00a0 <strong>Latos<\/strong>, <strong>Josh Johnson<\/strong>, and <strong>Hudson<\/strong> are also having great seasons.<\/p>\n<p>NL Rookie: <strong>Buster Posey<\/strong>.\u00a0 Yes he only came up in june, but to immediately slot in as the catcher, calling games for a rotation of elite starters AND being\u00a0 your teams cleanup hitter is impressive.\u00a0 That they made the playoffs and eventually won the World Series with Posey at the helm is even more impressive.\u00a0 In August this award was absolutely going to <strong>Jayson Heyward<\/strong>, but he tailed off and wasn&#8217;t nearly as exciting towards the end of the season as in the beginning.\u00a0 <strong>Jamie Garcia<\/strong> is in third place; it is hard to argue with a potential Cy Young candidate.\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Mike Stanton<\/strong>, <strong>Gaby Sanchez<\/strong> and even <strong>Stephen Strasburg<\/strong> were up for consideration at various times.\u00a0 <strong>Mike Leake<\/strong>&#8216;s accomplishments are pretty noteworthy (not a day in the minors and making the MLB rotation on a playoff-bound team).\u00a0 Just a great rookie class in the NL this year.<\/p>\n<p>NL Manager: <strong>Bud Black<\/strong>, though some serious consideration goes to <strong>Dusty Baker<\/strong> for the job he&#8217;s done in Cincinnati.\u00a0 But (in a similar story to Texas) to take a team nearly dead last in payroll to the top of a division with big time talent is tough.\u00a0 <strong>Bobby Cox<\/strong> has also done a nice job turning around Atlanta.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nov, 2010 Update: actual award winners: AL MVP: Josh Hamilton AL Cy Young: Felix Hernandez AL Rookie: Neftali Feliz AL Mgr: Ron Gardenhire NL MVP: Joey Votto, named first on 31\/32 ballots.
