{"id":73,"date":"2010-08-07T12:58:12","date_gmt":"2010-08-07T16:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=73"},"modified":"2012-09-26T10:07:39","modified_gmt":"2012-09-26T14:07:39","slug":"my-2-cents-on-dunns-non-trade-in-short-sign-him-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=73","title":{"rendered":"My 2 cents on Dunn&#8217;s non-trade&#8230; in short, sign him now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Post trade deadline, Jayson Stark was quoted somewhere (can&#8217;t find the link) that the White Sox offered up both <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hudsoda01.shtml\">Daniel Hudson<\/a> and catcher prospect <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/flowety01.shtml\">Tyler Flowers<\/a> for Dunn.\u00a0 If that is indeed true, I can&#8217;t quite understand why the Nats didn&#8217;t pull the trigger.<\/p>\n<p>I think perhaps the Nats hard line was a MLB-ready bat.\u00a0 Hudson seems to be in the same place (or a bit better) as our Jordan Zimmermann right now; cleaned up at AA, and has impressed so far in MLB.\u00a0 #2 starter prospect.\u00a0 We already got a catcher prospect in Ramos (for Capps) but you can never have enough catching&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, everything i&#8217;ve read about Rizzo and Dunn this trading season was along the lines of &#8220;teams are calling us and making offers; we&#8217;re not calling them to<br \/>\noffer up Dunn.&#8221;\u00a0 I really think teh Nats want to resign the guy.\u00a0 Yeah he&#8217;ll be expensive but look at his production.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/leagues\/NL\/2010-batting-leaders.shtml\">In the NL right now, here&#8217;s where Dunn is ranked in various categories:<\/a><br \/>\n2nd in slugging<br \/>\n3rd in OPS<br \/>\n10th in runs scored<br \/>\n2nd in total bases<br \/>\n6th in doubles<br \/>\n1st in homers<br \/>\n1st in extra base hits<br \/>\n3rd in RBI<br \/>\n3rd in Adjusted OPS+ (my favorite all-encompasing stat).\u00a0 Currently at 153, Behind Votto and Pujols<br \/>\nand, yes 2nd in Ks.<\/p>\n<p>You just have to resign a guy like this.\u00a0 Youare not going to find a slugging talent like this on the FA market these days.\u00a0 I mean, the best comparison seems to be someone like Fielder and he&#8217;ll be looking for a $100M contract.<\/p>\n<p>Coincidentally.\u00a0 here&#8217;s where Zimmermann is on all these lists as well:<br \/>\n10th in NL-wide war (5th among hitters)<br \/>\n11th in batting average<br \/>\n6th in OBP<br \/>\n8th in slugging<br \/>\n5th in OPS<br \/>\n10th in runs<br \/>\n4th in adjusted OPS+ at 147, just behind Dunn.<\/p>\n<p>I mean, basically they&#8217;re saying that 2 of the 4 best overall hitters in the NL are hitting right next to each other in the heart of the Washington lineup.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll put our 3-4-5 hitters up there against anyone in the league right now.\u00a0 Milwaukee&#8217;s Braun-Fielder-Hart is pretty good.\u00a0 Philly&#8217;s Utley-Howard-Werth should be up there in normal circumstances.\u00a0 Same with the dodgers (a healthy Ramirez-Kemp-Ethier combo).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of the dodgers; man the nats (well, Dunn) got to Kershaw last night.\u00a0 6 rbi and 2 homers will make for a nice week, let alone a nice first couple of at bats.<\/p>\n<p>Sign him; he&#8217;s the key to the middle of the order of this team for the next 4 years, by which time we should be competing for the playoffs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Post trade deadline, Jayson Stark was quoted somewhere (can&#8217;t find the link) that the White Sox offered up both Daniel Hudson and catcher prospect Tyler Flowers for Dunn.\u00a0 If that is indeed true, I can&#8217;t quite understand why the Nats didn&#8217;t pull the trigger.
