they have their own awards \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Walter Johnson Starting Pitcher of the Year:\u00a0<\/strong>Zimmermann,\u00a0<strong>Strasburg, Gonzalez<\/strong>: Same way I voted. \u00a0I do like the few side-votes for\u00a0<strong>Roark<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Frederick &#8220;Firpo&#8221; Marberry Relief Pitcher of the Year<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>:\u00a0Clippard, Stammen, Soriano<\/strong>: I voted Clippard, Stammen and then\u00a0Roark. \u00a0Honestly I did not think Soriano really did that great a job this year. \u00a0He had a 0.9 WAR for his $15M salary (with deferred payments). \u00a0That just doesn&#8217;t cut it for me for a high-end closer. \u00a0I want <strong>Craig Kimbrel<\/strong>-esque dominance for that kind of money.\u00a0 Roark on the other hand had a 2.0 bWAR in his limited time on the team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sam Rice Hitter of the Year:\u00a0<\/strong>Werth, Desmond, <strong>Zimmerman<\/strong><b>. \u00a0<\/b>I went Desmond, <strong>Span, <\/strong>Harper. \u00a0I dunno; I guess I got caught up on the definition, which included &#8220;baserunning&#8221; and &#8220;situational&#8221; hitting. \u00a0I think I just plain forgot how good a season Werth had here.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Frank Howard Slugger of the Year:\u00a0<\/strong>Werth, Harper, Zimmerman: same way as I voted. \u00a0Maybe we should have put more thought into it besides just listing the team leaders in \u00a0homers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Joe Judge Defensive Player of the Year:\u00a0<\/strong>Span, Desmond,\u00a0<strong>Ramos<\/strong>. \u00a0I went Span, Desmond and <strong>Espinosa<\/strong>. \u00a0Despite how bad his bat was, Espinosa was still awfully good in the field. \u00a0You always forget about the catchers when rating defenders. \u00a0I&#8217;m guilty here.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mickey Vernon Comeback Player of the Year: <\/strong>Ramos, Werth<strong>, Ohlendorf<\/strong>. \u00a0I went\u00a0<strong>Jordan<\/strong>, Ramos and Werth. \u00a0Remember, Jordan had Tommy John surgery and was buried in high-A to start the season. \u00a0That&#8217;s a heck of a comeback. \u00a0Fair enough on Ramos after his kidnapping ordeal and his injuries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Josh Gibson Humanitarian Player of the Year: <\/strong>Zimmerman, Desmond, Gonzalez. \u00a0Honestly I only voted for Zimmerman; do the rest of these guys do events? \u00a0Maybe i&#8217;m just unaware of what the rest of the team is doing in the charity world, but clearly Zimmerman&#8217;s MS causes is well known.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Minor League Player of the Year<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>: Giolito, Rendon, Cole<\/strong>: I voted Giolito, Cole and Goodwin, thinking that Rendon was &#8220;graduated.&#8221; \u00a0I have two lines of players because I wasn&#8217;t sure how to answer the question at first; was it &#8220;3 best prospects&#8221; or &#8220;3 best minor league players THIS season?&#8221; \u00a0Because the answer to the latter question clearly is not the same as the answer to the former question.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Survey Questions<br \/>\n1.\u00a0<em>Which players on the 40-man roster at the end of the season are least likely to return in 2010? \u00a0 \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I said <strong>Cedeno, Haren, <\/strong>Ohlendorf<strong>, Tracy<\/strong>\u00a0(which were the top four answers among all the responses) but i&#8217;d like to change my mind on Ohlendorf. \u00a0 I think the team is going to tender him and keep him around as a long man, considering that he can&#8217;t refuse an option until mid-next year. \u00a0I also think a couple of these random guys picked up on waivers late in the season (<strong>Tyler Robinson<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Mauro Gomez<\/strong>) may not stick around for the long haul. \u00a0These two guys in particular never even got numbers assigned to them.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0<em>Will the Nats sign Ian Desmond and Jordan Zimmermann to\u00a0long-term\u00a0contract extensions before they reach free agency?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I said &#8220;Desmond yes, Zimmermann maybe.&#8221; \u00a0Honestly, I feel the team can replace Zimmermann from within and may be better served to flip him for prospects if his price tag gets too high. \u00a0At some point the Nats are going to have to make tough choices like this (they are not going to be able to give 9-figure deals to everyone on this team who deserves them) in order to maintain their core group and contine to compete. \u00a0You already have two 9-figure deals, and you have to think that Desmond, Harper and Strasburg are going to merit them. \u00a0can you have a team with that much top-heavy payroll? \u00a0Now, if you got Zimmerman for Gonzalez prices (5 \u00a0yrs $50M or so) then you have yourself a deal.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0<em>What player was the biggest surprise for the Nats this season?<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I went with with\u00a0Jordan, Roark, Werth. \u00a0 The group went with Roark, Werth, Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0<em>Who was the biggest disappointment?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I went with\u00a0Haren, Span, LaRoche. \u00a0The group went with Haren, Espinosa, Span. \u00a0Maybe I didn&#8217;t include Espinosa because I already had my doubts on him;
