{"id":7885,"date":"2013-10-08T07:37:49","date_gmt":"2013-10-08T11:37:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=7885"},"modified":"2013-10-10T09:09:37","modified_gmt":"2013-10-10T13:09:37","slug":"quick-thoughts-on-tonight-10813s-playoff-starters-and-matchups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalsarmrace.com\/?p=7885","title":{"rendered":"Quick thoughts on tonight 10\/8\/13&#8217;s playoff starters and matchups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>13 for 15 on the post-season now. \u00a0Got 3 of 4 yesterday; didn&#8217;t see the A&#8217;s beating <strong>Sanchez<\/strong>. \u00a0And didn&#8217;t see the Dodgers pulling a fast one and throwing\u00a0<strong>Kershaw<\/strong> on short rest. \u00a0\u00a0They really must not trust <b>Nolasco<\/b> right now.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s might be the toughest games yet to pick; both ALDS game 4s are featuring the team&#8217;s #4 starters, who are the least predictable and most unreliable.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Detroit-Oakland<\/span><\/strong>: <strong>Straily<\/strong> vs <strong>Fister<\/strong>.\u00a0 A rematch of this exact scenario (Oakland visiting Detroit) on August 28th.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the box score: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/boxes\/DET\/DET201308280.shtml\">http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/boxes\/DET\/DET201308280.shtml<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0 Oakland pounded Fister that day and won 14-4.\u00a0 Fister finished the season very erratically, Straily finished with a handful of decent starts.\u00a0 Neither guy has had a start since 9\/25 &#8230; so they&#8217;re working on 13+ days of rest when they&#8217;re used to just four.\u00a0 So you have to wonder how that&#8217;s going to play out.\u00a0 Honestly I see another high scoring game here and I see Oakland taking it.\u00a0 They&#8217;re hot, Fister&#8217;s not good, and if Oakland could so easily get to Sanchez they can easily pound Fister.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Boston-Tampa<\/strong><\/span>: <strong>Peavy<\/strong> vs <strong>Hellickson<\/strong>.\u00a0 Peavy&#8217;s faced Tampa twice this year and had basically the same line: 6ip, 3ER, quality start.\u00a0 One game they lost, one they won.\u00a0 Meanwhile Hellickson had an awful 2013, a significant step back from a guy who was considering a near ace last year.\u00a0 His ERA rose two full points from 2012 to 2013.\u00a0 However he was good in his three 2013 outings versus Boston.\u00a0 He&#8217;s going to have to shake off some really bad outings recently, but I think he can do it.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going with Tampa to force a game 5.<\/p>\n<p>Picking Oakland and Tampa today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>13 for 15 on the post-season now. \u00a0Got 3 of 4 yesterday; didn&#8217;t see the A&#8217;s beating Sanchez. \u00a0And didn&#8217;t see the Dodgers pulling a fast one and throwing\u00a0Kershaw on short rest. \u00a0\u00a0They really must not trust Nolasco right now.
