school this season, and I have a summer ball post in the works. \u00a0Might as well close the loop on local amateur baseball and talk a bit about Little League \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Little League district all-star tournaments are finished up in MD and VA. \u00a0Here&#8217;s some quick results to the local leagues:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Northern Virginia<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eteamz.com\/vastatell\/\">Virginia State Little League<\/a> is divided into 16 districts, several of which are local to the DC area:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eteamz.com\/va4\/\">District 4<\/a>: Representing areas north of <del>I-66<\/del>\u00a0US Route 50 from the DC line all the way out to Loudoun County. \u00a0Includes powerhouse local programs from <a href=\"http:\/\/vll.org\/Default.asp?org=vll.org\">Vienna<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcleanll.com\/\">McLean<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insports.net\/greatfallslittleleague\">Great Falls<\/a>. \u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eteamz.com\/va4\/news\/index.cfm?id=5775917&amp;cat=919333\">tournament pool play<\/a> was held the first week of July.\u00a0 Both McLean teams, Great falls and Vienna National <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eteamz.com\/va4\/news\/index.cfm?id=5779227&amp;cat=919333\">advanced to the District Semis<\/a>. \u00a0 There, McLean American squeaked by McLean National 3-2 while Great Falls destroyed Vienna National 11-1.\u00a0 In the final, Great Falls outlasted McLean American 9-4. \u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">District Champ<\/span>:\u00a0<strong>Great Falls<\/strong> (2012 Virginia champ)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/vad9.org\/blog\/\">District 9<\/a>: Representing Springfield and Woodbridge areas. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/vad9.org\/blog\/majors-all-stars\/\">Tournament results are here<\/a>.\u00a0 In the knockout rounds, West Springfield American came through the losers bracket to beat Fort Hunt Little League.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000;\">District Champ<\/span>: <strong>West Springfield American\u00a0<\/strong>(2005 Virginia State Champ)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eteamz.com\/valldist10\/news\/index.cfm?cat=902055\">District 10<\/a>: Representing Fairfax County areas south of I-66, including Fairfax, Annandale, Manassas, Chantilly. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eteamz.com\/valldist10\/files\/2014LittleLeagueMajorsPoolPlaySchedule.pdf\">Tournament pool play results<\/a> here.\u00a0 Both teams from Southwestern Youth (Centreville) and Chantilly advanced to the knockout rounds. \u00a0In the final matchup of the two SYA leagues,<br \/>\nSYA West continued their dominance winning the district 10.2 \u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">District Champ<\/span>:\u00a0<strong>Southwestern Youth West<\/strong> (SYA East was the 2007 and 2010 VA champ)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/vadist16.org\/\">District 16<\/a>: Representing Loudoun and Fauquier counties. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/vadist16.org\/district-tournaments\/little-league-baseball-tournament\/\">Tournament bracket here<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">District Champ<\/span>: <strong>Loudoun South Little League<\/strong>, who outlasted Dulles Little League American in the final.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Local representatives Great Falls, West Springfield American, SYA West and Loudoun South head to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eteamz.com\/valldist10\/files\/TournamentLocationandStartDateInformation.pdf\">Virginia State Little League tournament<\/a> this year is in Bridgewater, starting on July 17th, with a lot of history between them. \u00a0Four State championships in the last decade to be exact. \u00a0The tournament pits the winners of all 16 Virginia districts.<\/p>\n<p>Links to past <a href=\"http:\/\/www.littleleague.org\/series\/history\/statechamp\/index.htm\">Virginia State little League champs<\/a>: its only up to 2011. \u00a0Great Falls was your 2012 champ and Tuckahoe in Richmod was 2013. \u00a0Tuckahoe American will be back in the state tourney to defend its title.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Maryland<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Maryland is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unpage.org\/maryland\/md-dir2014.htm\">divided into 8 districts<\/a> (though only 7 of them compete in the State Tournament; read below for the DC &#8220;district 3&#8221;). \u00a0 Links to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unpage.org\/maryland\/md-2014.htm#DISTLIST\">district results<\/a> are here.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>District 1: Hagerstown and Northwest Maryland. \u00a0District champ: <strong>Sharpsburg<\/strong> (just south of Hagerstown)<\/li>\n<li>District 2: Frederick area. \u00a0District champ: <strong>Frederick National<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>District 4: Howard County and South Baltimore: District Champ: <strong>Arbutus<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>District 5: Elkton\/Rising Sun. \u00a0District Champ: <strong>Elkton Community<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>District 6: Eastern Shore (Denton, Easton, etc). \u00a0District champ: <strong>Easton<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>District 7: Mostly Southern Maryland but also including the massive Bethesda Little League. \u00a0District Champ: <strong>Hughesville<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>District 8: Eastern Shore (Berlin, Salisbury). \u00a0District Champ: <strong>West Salisbury<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unpage.org\/maryland\/md-dir2014.htm\">Maryland&#8217;s state tournament<\/a> started over the 7\/11\/14 weekend; we&#8217;ll cover that in the State review in the next post.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>DC<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Little League baseball in the District historically has been a mess. \u00a0The website unpage.org has done a great job of capturing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unpage.org\/dc\/\">history of <\/a>little league baseball in the district, which was competitive for years but which completely dried up in the mid 1980s. \u00a0By the mid 90s though, a rebirth had occurred with DC&#8217;s dominant Capitol City league also capturing the Maryland state title.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unpage.org\/dc\/\">Washington DC<\/a> has 6 leagues; two of them are competitive (Northwest and Capitol City) and the others struggle (Capitol Hill, Banniker City, Satchel Paige and Southern). \u00a0It encompasses just one &#8220;district&#8221; within Maryland&#8217;s structure but for the 11\/12 year olds, DC&#8217;s winner is treated like a state champ and is entered directly into the Regional tournament. \u00a0 Either Capitol City or Northwest has won the city title every year a tournament has been held. \u00a0No DC team has ever advanced further than the Mid-Atlantic regional semi finals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unpage.org\/dc\/dc-dir2014.htm\">DC&#8217;s playoffs <\/a><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unpage.org\/dc\/dc-dir2014.htm\">are underway<\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and finish up on 7\/22\/14. \u00a0We&#8217;ll cover them in the state round up.<\/span><br
